Well I've just got back from 'Zone' chipping my 325i Sport, and F*ck me readers does it make a difference! Ok, so it might be connected to Busters old M20 engine, but I ran it before the chip and the difference is Awesome!
I highly recommened getting your ride chipped if you're looking for that bit of extra Ooomph!!

I'm just looking forward to getting it on the real road, been SORN for 6 months MOT and the weekend...DOH!!
Buster might know the gains from the chip, this engine and ECU used to belong to him.
I'll look at getting it on a Rolling road at some point, just out of curiousity cos I've never had it done before.

typical gain is 7-12 hp,. slightly more on the torque, the main gains are felt in the midrange area where the stock fuelling/timing is optimised for emissions not power
Mpg is normally improved due to the better power delivery, I had tons of dyno sheets from way back in the day but my old PC bit the dust and they were all scanned onto there

rolling road sessions can be quite nerve racking, standing next to your car indoors,as someone else screws the arse of it,whilst hoping the whole thing doesnt go bang
i had my current engine done when it was fitted to my last project ,its a good feeling when its all done and it was a good result though

sounds good, but does it have any long term affect on the car?, it might seem a silly thing to ask , but not used to this moding thing, but like the idea of a bit more go.

Hi Ian,
its a good engine, the cam also makes a differance and also its a good chip !!
when i put the cam it was a little lumpy at idle also a bit hesitant,This was fixed by using the zone chip as it brought the idle speed up a tad.The big bore throttle body made a nice differance also.
Im glad you managed to get the ecu pluged in,i wont tell the rest of the zoners where you were trying to plug it in
I had a super chip in before the zone one,it wasnt bad but it wasnt as good as the zone one.
Still got it sat here in an old ecu,as Ant probably remembers i fitted the zone chip there and then at rockingham !!
cheers

Is it worth getting your fuelling checked on a RR after fitting a zone chip or are they nice and conservative? (Assuming your car was running fine to start with). Also, whats the difference between a 325i chip and a 325i Touring chip? Or is that just so that people get the chip listed when they click on Touring parts?
On a related note, whats the usual gain from a BBTB?

I think just having the CO checked by your MOT guy with a butt probe is sufficient. And if it's out just ajust the AFM. Not that I've ever bothered,
it passed the MOT!!!

It was the purchase of a chip that got me introduced to the zone. I think I got it through ebay. It was sold to me as an Alpina chip. At the time Hertge chips became available too.
How do these compare with what is being sold as the Zone Chip now? I noticed a difference with my chip (i think), but was wondering if the Zone Chip is better??

073 and higher comp make a good combo with a few tweaks Ziggy.
Chip is well worth the £Â£, check the ECU type, 28 pin = good, 24, minor PITA but still ok,(soldering req!)

In relation to fitting the chip, My mate is fitting it for me as im very slightly backward with things like this. He wants to put a wideband lambda sensor on the car to check afr, is there a boss to put this into on the std exhaust?

Ant i have always been told its much better to weld in a O2 bung just after the manifold to get correct readings. For the sake of £25 i would get one welded in (which im about to get) and put the WB02 in there for mapping. (it might also come in use at a later date if you were to select Lambda control.

Cheers dude, was just checking it'd be worth having on 073 really - now I shall go put my exhaust back on, get to hear the new mani (
Are there any differences on a chip designed to go with a 6 branch etc? Probably getting a BBTB soon too...?

Totally agree fella, I have 2, 02 bungs on mine and have used both for comparisons sake, they give the same readings, my point was that its not always an option to weld the bung due to time/material/space restrictions, thats where the tailpipe 02 unit comes into its own, provided the design is correct and the sensor sees enough flow the readings will be correct sampled from anywhere in the system.Obv no use for closed loop though lol !Ant i have always been told its much better to weld in a O2 bung just after the manifold to get correct readings. Ant is there any plans to do a chip for the M30 3.5? it seems a lot of people are now doing the conversion, myself included.
Sorry for jumping in on this thread but I hear a lot of very positive talk about the 'zone' chip and would love one for my M30

got no plans @ this time due to other things coming further up the list.
can I tempt anyone for a Megasquirt ECU instead ? same amount of wiring overall, easier to tweak later and no more pesky AFM, you know it makes sense

Not for me just yet...! Spent far too much recently.
So does a zone chip work fine irrespective of other bolt on mods? Ie would the same chip be ideal for someone who's currently just got a 6-branch, & might want to get a BBTB too (me!)? Ta
