Just buy number 7 from your local BMW dealer! If its $9 on the OEM then it will probably be about a £5 here!

It could just need a new gasket if nothing is missing.

I cant check mine, I have no photo's of my old engine :?

It is a fairly easy fix... BMW actually make a repair kit for it as the original gasket was made from the wrong material. Kit is just a new gasket and ring to hold it in place. Here is the fitting guide ...

Hope it helps ... I lost patience a couple of times trying to fit it back together !!

Yeah those little seals are common for leaking. I changed mine when it was off and it only cost a few quid. Its a pain in the ass trying to hold it in place though to fit the circlip as the spring keeps trying to push it back out.

There was actually a product recall on this and the reservoir caps in the early ninties. As you can imagine if the seal went it would dump the oil pretty quickley. You can tell if it has been changed from the original one as the new circlips have the ends pointing in to the center, to make them easier to take out.

waterpump pliers and a deep socket are the tools of choice for this little fekker BTW, dont forget to lubricate the O ring with a bit of clean oil.

the "kit" will include a new cap with a higher preload for the spring, last setup I bought was under £4

I bought the bits to do this the other week from the dealers and it was about 5 quid.

I've got the kit for this kicking around in my boot. Bought it 12 months ago and now I have sold the car that leaks
