I was expecting this, ol' faithfull had to get high maintenance at some point...

It failed on a brake hose!!! Fantasic!! What a tribute to classic engineering!!!!

Was expecting bushes, suspension, tyres, fuel lines and all sorts but nooooo just a brake hose!!! Great news!! :o Anyone had a plesant MOT experience.. or not?

First time I MOTd the Sport it failed on a worn ball joint or something like that, I forget now. Not bad considering it went from 7 years sat in a garage doing about 1300miles a year, straight into everyday use - I did more miles in the first month of owning it than it had done in the previous year 8O

Sailed through the last MOT, although Im not looking forward to its next one - been sat still for 17 months again :(

what's with this new MOT test anyway :-x

Today i went for a re test, previously failed on headlight alignment (total seized adjusters) now new angle eyes :D

So the geezer set about checking everything again , picking up points "i missed the 1st tme", wanker :-x , after insisting i try to realign the lights on his garage wall i get a new MOT cert some 1.5hrs later :wan:

Won't be going back there next time!!!!!

mine just passed recently. First test was a rear wheel bearing needed replacing, went through and they picked up on my side indicators not flashing orange, got that replaced, got my reverse light done while I was at it, finally passed!

my 325 cab failed on both ball joints so i replaced both bottom arms. also failed because it needs a bit of welding on the inner wing which i will be doing at the weekend. i was also expecting at lot worse so its all good.

I hope seized adjusters on their own don't make a fail - that'd take out most of the E30 crowd in one go :(

Why couldn't you do anything about it?? You knew they were faulty, and still put it in for a ticket, knowing it would fail, and the work would have to be done anyway! Can't see the point.
I've never had an E30 fail an MOT, mainly because of the quality of the components and the high standard of BMW engineering, but also because I check over the thing first, and put right anything that needs doing.
(Just remembered, I did have one fail once, on emissions. I had been doing some minor work in the LH side of the engine bay, and must have moved a protruding knob on the LPG reducer, making the mixture over rich. Quick tweak brought it all back into cat equipped car spec, even though the car doesn't have a cat.)

Brian, i beg to differ, the Head light adjuster's certainly are not a quality component, my guess designed for no more than 10yrs 8O

lol  , I'll dig out their diary!!!

oddly enough, I don't get it done there anymore. Bit of a fallacy if, like with my car, the brake hose that is faulty, goes, and your doing silly mph with no brakes!!!

Headlamp adjusters last for ever if you take the trouble to add a little copper grease to the threads. It's called maintenence.

No car NEEDS a cat to pass MOT, but it does need to meet the emission requirements for it's registration. Mine comfortably meets the cat type emissions without a cat by running on LPG.
Aug 92 is the date from which it has to meet thr tighter regs, IIRC.

back in my young days (he says at the tender age of 23) getting an MOt was easy. I remember getting one for my Nova

testing the emissions "sniff sniff... smells alright!"

My cab was sitting for 6 months before MOT time put it in... 2 bulbs and a £10 break light switch that seats behind the brake pedal :D
