Hi, can I ask what electric fans and induction kits eveyone has used in this conversion?
Cheers.

Sandy,
I initially used a 14" Pacet cooling fan, but later changed this for a regular E30 electric fan (also 14") when I installed the Aircon. If anything, the E30 fan keeps the engine that little bit cooler because I wired it for the two speed operation. The Pacet was only single speed.
As for the air filter. I initially used a foam Pipercross cone filter clamped on the end of the MAF unit. This was later swapped for a larger K&N cone. I still need to shield the filter or box it in, but there's not a lot of space. It seems to go very well without it, so it's not particularly high on my list of things to do. I do have a couple of spare intake plenums that I'm going to experiment with though. I was planning to do something a bit like the E46 M3 CSL with a flat panel filter built into the plenum.
Ian.

i wonder if an e46 airbox would fit and give any clearance advantages ?
That carbon airbox i have on at the mo has been a complete pain in the arse to fit.
I still cant get the MAF in as theres no room,if i move the abs pump back a bit it may go in but then there will be no room for a filter.I am seriously considering removing it and putting the standard one back on.
Very expensive mistake if i have to.
I have also got hold of an e30 electric fan (14")
Have yet to fit and wire it.

Sandy,
The fan looks fine (same as the one found on A/C equipped cars, although you would need the mounting brackets).
For the filter, I wouldn't bother buying the complete kit. You just need the filter element. I'll have a look in the garage tonight and get the K&N part number. I'm pretty sure it was £60 or £70 on it's own.
Cheers,
Ian.

It's in German, but you get the general idea if you run it through a translator.

Thanks Ian, thats helped me as i didn't think the M30 air box would fit that side of the bay with an ABS equiped E30.
It's for this twin 60mm TB i am hoping to graft on to the wrong side of my inlet manifold.

........ i just need to find an 90 degree elbow thats 100mm I/D at the air box end and i think it's 115-120mm I/D to fit over the TB ????
May be i could just chop the air box out let off and replace it with an opening the same size as the TB, if you know what i mean

I'm going to have the flat side of the manifold milled(?) flat like yours and have the adapter plate welded to the manifold, then drill/tap the plate for some studs to fasten the TB to the plate.Toby_Unna wrote:that's looking pretty sweet Andy.![]()

sounds like a plan. manifold is a bit thin to tap really, ok for my standard TB but that one's pretty big!Andy335Touring wrote:I'm going to have the flat side of the manifold milled(?) flat like yours and have the adapter plate welded to the manifold, then drill/tap the plate for some studs to fasten the TB to the plate.Toby_Unna wrote:that's looking pretty sweet Andy.![]()

I'd have tapped the manifold like yours but i need that plate to space the TB away from the manifold otherwise the the throttle mechanism on the TB catches the manifold, it's never as straight forward as you think when you start doing these sort of things to your motorToby_Unna wrote:
