Just bought a i'll little m40. Its only got 81 000 on the clock, and the camshaft is even relatively quite! Has not rust to speak off and a nice set of 15"bbs with all the centrecaps and good tyres!

However it overheats like a kettle!

It overheats all the time, makes rather a nice steamy water foutain when you take the expansion cap off! Its so bad that it eventually stalls!

I have replaced the water pump and thermostate, but still the same.

It doesn't blow hot air and gets all steamed up inside.

So I think its a heater valve messed up which is probably caused the head gasket to go

Is there a way to jam open the heater valve? Sure i've read somewhere that you can break it so it open?

Anyone fancy helping me do a headgasket job in manchester? :P

Thanks for any help guys...

heater valves are cable operated.

remove the facia and pull/push cable and trace to heater matrix!

Not in qny E30 I've worked on there not!
You're confusing the heater water valve with the air blending flap.
In any case, it won't be anything to do with overheating.
Check the radiator isn't blocked.
Do the rad hoses get hot?

I'm pretty sure that the rad hoses don't get vey hot. There is deffinatly something blocking it.

So the fact that their is no circulation means that their is not hot air in the cabin... this makes sence now.

If the cars stalling and generally runing rough, especially when its get hot, this means their is water leaking into the cyclinder correct?

Right so I need to first sort out the blockage.

What the best thing to clear it out? I know there are though radiator clear fluid, will this actually work?

Is bleach a good idea?

As i'm not near the car at the moment i could get my sister to put some bleach in it a let is soak for a while... or would this kill alll the pipes?
