While I don't think its right letting a "witch hunt" start because it's been posted on the board. It seems after paypal/ebay have failed to resolve the problem and the buyer has yet to reply to the sellers PM's (Whether it be on purpose or not)
Now maybe the only chance to come to an amicable conclusion
Do the right thing Stu and sort it out over PM's no ones blaming you for what happened, but if you pass a chance to clear your name then it doesn't look too good.
Having read these posts, I agree with 316 and bootyman, Mr Stuart must offer his side of the story to try and redeem himself.
Hiding behind "use ebay or proper channels to sort ths" type comments is irellivant and shows people are not reading the posts correctly. It appears this potentially could be a scam which has been perpetrated by other people and exploits flaws in paypals policy. As we are 12 months down the line from the initial communications with paypal and are without result, the "proper channels" have been exhausted.
Ziggy has every right to use this media to try and gain resolution. When people have complaints about their banks or their local car dealer, if they have no joy, the press is only too keen to hear about it. If Ziggy feels this is the best way to try and gain a resolution then this is his prerogative.
Use of the internet has enabled communications to conquer physical distances between people, the very thing that scammers feel safe exploiting. There has to be a consequence for proven scammers exploiting people in this fashion. Even if it is just bringing the matter to the attention of fellow zoners, so they can be aware of it and make an informed decision about whether they wish to deal with the parties or not.
If it takes a witch hunt to resolve this issue, so long as the pressure applied is above board and legal, then so be it. These incidents ruin the vary nature of what these sorts of forums are about.
If Mr Stuart is guilty of scamming, I'm sure if some disgruntled people let their feeling be known to him face to face, he would think twice about doing this sort of thing again.
However this comes full circle, if Mr Stuart can vindicate himself of blame, he needs to do so on here. His silence will justify any witch hunt or action taken against him.
This country is buried under mindless beaurocracy and liberal ideals which perport to fairness but actually throw a spanner in the works for victims of these sort of things.
I'm not justifying violence or condoning it but the pen is not always mightier than the sword. There is no substitute for face to face communication.
If I was on the receiving end of such a scam and it would be worth my while to pay someone a visit, I'd do it in the blink of an eye.
It's not childish, immature or neolithic. It's just an old fashioned way to get results.
