Something that works rather than just makes noise.
Can make you an ITG based one like on the 325i's which work very well.

TBH mate you are better saving your money for a bigger engine, or to pay insurance if that is your problem, IMHO...

This make's sure you just suck in HOT air, that's no good!Bob_S wrote:if you remove the pipe between the front lights and airbox it makes a nice noise
I've drilled hole's in my air box but only on the left side of the air box. The air box that was on it before i drilled hole's both side's and found alot of crap that the fan was picking up and chucking in the box, does'nt happen now with the hole's just on the left
Leave the pipe on!
And use a K&N panel filter......Ԛ£20 from GSF

I drilled holes in the airbox of my 318 engine, sounded pretty good tbh! Was well happy for 5 minutes with the drill.

There are no HOT air issues in E30 engine bays guys. Only in standing traffic where you wont need max power. Once moving the outside air temp is the same as the under bonnet (intake side) temp.
Ive done this experiment twice now so dont worry about drilling holes and adding unshielded induction kits.

I can not believe that the air coming through the radiator is at ambient temperature, even when on the move!

The airfilter is not behind the radiator, its behind the head light.
I will carry out the tests again with Ant and we can record the real results.
I have a dual digital thermometer which is calibrated and was supplied by Brent (H27) who specialises in these instruments.
One probe will sit on the outside of the grill and one will be attached to the outside of the airbox on the rad side.
Temperature differences standing still, in traffic and on the move will be measured.
This time I am going to also see how much time is taken for the outside and under bonnet temps to be equal after sitting in traffic and then going on the move.

I'd be interested to see your results on that!M5pilot wrote:The airfilter is not behind the radiator, its behind the head light.
