Following on from a thread i started not so long back regarding the Zone Chip for my CAB.

It was over fueling, ticking over at 1k.. obvioulsy this isnt to clever for the rings etc.. i didnt have the car set up for the chip (AFM) etc and was told on here that isnt the problem, zone chips are plug n play and if you got problems then revert back to yer old chip and sort them out first..

So...

today i changed back to my old chip, guess what.. no over fueling, doenst smell of petrol half as bad and it sits where it should do 7-800 rpm on tickover..

Now i aint slating the chip here,im just after information on why it was overfueling with the zone chip and WHY shouldnt i have to have the car set up to take a new chip, after all it only programs fuel right?.. and nothing to do with the air being allowed in to burn that extra fuel.?

And nope i dont get the extra shove now at 3k and about 5k with the stock chip but it still pulls well.. TBH i wouldnt know if the stock chip pulls more consistantly than the zone chip or vise versa..

need help here guys please... i dont know what chip to use here :?

all i know is that when speaking to outhers inc e30 owners they have had there AFM or Co adjusted when installing a upgraded chip of any description..

Anyone else with a zone chip especialy for the CAB,i would appreciate your input and ideas..

cheers

Situation ATM is to keep the stock chip in,then get it booked in to Solent Race'n'Rally for a rolling tune..

for that i will install the zone chip and let them do there thing, there tell me if the chip is even doing anything spectacular and if it is then do any necessary adjustments..

On top of that id get an idea on how my engine is running, flat spots, compression etc etc

you must be the odd one out mate, have you PM'D Ant? get him to send you/do you another one.

EDIT: I herd that when you fit the chip you should turn your ignition on (DO NOT START) for 10-20mins, for the chip to get to know the car or somthin??? yes/no anybody? :?:

Ive sent Ant a pm.. hopefully he can shed some light, another ting ive told Ant about is my MPG OBC reading..

With the Zone chip installed i would see 18Mpg with 50/50 driving allmost all the time..

put my stock chip back in and frashed it about for 30 mins to bed it in etc and i couldnt get it BELOW 20Mpg 8O

Is the chip faulty? who knows but i dont understand why no one else has had these problems with this chip

I do feel the difference at 3k when accelerating hard so its doing something

A bit of a thread hi-jack but I installed my e30zone chip after a full fluid and belt service and for a couple of minutes the exhaust ran clear then after 10 minutes started bellowing out white smoke that stayed underload and to make it worse I've lost my standard chip so I can't revert to the old one to see if it's the problem.

I thought perhaps that the headgasket was going but no mayo and old gasket was replaced about 20-30k ago... anyone got any idea's. Also the exhaust has a hole in the center section could that cause some smoke?

Thanks in advance...

yes because moisture will be getting in the system and when the exhaust warms up u get white smoke out of it, this is normal anyway, but it will be alot worse if u have a hole in the centre box. Get it changed! And i expect a fair bit of water will get in this time of year because it's damp all the time

Condesation in the exhaust, you are a god :) I was very worried I'd have to pay out (my skills are limited to servicing :D ). I also have about 6 holes in the car so water is becoming my worst enemy. It's gonna be a filler weekend :D

If anyone feels their chosen chip is "faulty" please return it to me for inspection.

my address, email addy and contact number were included with the comp slip when you recieved the chip.

lemme know folks, and yes, fix that leaky exhaust, a chip cannot deliver the best without some help !

Service/fix, then start messing about, never add a chip in an attempt to "cure" a pre-existing issue

just my 2p

just a thought, OK @ idle with stock chip=AFM was ajusted to that chip

the zone chip you have does feature revised fuelling at idle, have you had this ajusted at all>? if you only have issues with the idle( and consumption) being rich @ idle is the quickest way to poor mpg.

by all means send it back for a tweak dude, but try the afm ajustment 1st, 5mm allen key, give it a full turn out from where its at @ the mo, see how she smells then.

Pm will follow with addy etc

when i installed my zone chip last nite it ran slower than normal on first test. but then when i went to go home from mates garage i propper spotted it up and it screamed its nuts off :) surpised the living daylights out of me! then after that, the more i drove it the better it got. plus it ticks over slower now. before it would occasionally tick over too fast. dont anymore.

Is easy as that?

Sry bud, but im not that clued up with these things, just know basics im afraid but shouldt that be left to someone better suited than me?.. though adjusting that was a no-no unless yer know what yer doing?

Too much of a turn or too less isnt helping is it?

i would check the bloody engine is running right, before i went chipping it.

Also don't throw receipts away. I thought that would be obvious! U seem to be doing yourself no favours if u ask me. I'm not having a dig just stating how i see it from this thread

Its a zone chip ffs! .. why would i need a reciept,im sure between ANT,my pay-pal and hes fkin handwriting he would know it was one of his..

Do me a favour.. go and annoy someone else with yer smart replys...

finding out info on here and trying to determine wether i have a porked chip or not is a valid thing to do is it not.. this is a tech section right?

My engines running fine like i said when i put the stock chip back in... but you must know that, you read my post right?

smelling fuel @ idle with the zone chip isnt right is it? again a valid question

adjusting AFM screws with minimal experience again is a valid question yes?

lol.. some people

just because u can't smell fuel with the standard chip doesn't mean the engine is running right helmet.

Don't start, i'm trying to help u. If u are a spastic who throws receipts away fine. And all this sh!te about hand writing and paypal is nonsense when all u have to do is not throw away the receipt.

"lol some people" i think your lack of knowledge and experience with engines "ffs" and your attittude might have something to do with all this.

Expecting/demanding for doing f**k all

if it's just a zone chip ffs then why all the fuss? it only cost a pinky so get over it

Simon serioulsy..

The fact that i DONT smell fuel when i have the stock chip in and DO smell fuel with the Zone chip in does worry me..

i know enough to know my engine is running ok...

Its a question to the members.. some have issues, some dont with these chips...

I dont expect anything... im like anyone else who needs answers.. so i post here.. you go on about my attitide, thats because your reply wasnt exactly tactfull was it?

your responce to the reciept thing...WTF you going on about? .. its from ANT,he would know this, remind me to ask for a reciept for an OBC that i got from here on the Zone....please

And yea i do care about a chip, couldnt care less if it only cost me 25 quid.. id still be bothered...so dont know exactly why you say shyte like that..

The car was on a rolling road 4-5 weeks ago..i think if i had major engine problems they and outher e30 members who were there would of said something?

And i was told to adjust the AFM screw.... now that i know i shouldnt do.. so i asked

You say your trying to help with..where?

You just bashed this thread,simple

Help if yer can.. if not..dont post

Bash outher peoples thread if thats what you do whenever someone has questions and needs answers..

if its me then use the PM

Ant,

Does the 1k @ Idle sound about right to you? is that normal for the Z chips as you say they have revised fueling at Idle? it isnt lumpy at all but it does run high..

just trying to narrow this whole mess down..

With the stock chip in, it idles at about 6-7 ish fine, again not lumpy, nice and smooth as it should be..

You mention adjusting the AFM but outher havent had to bother with this..So would it idle lower if the AFM was adjusted to acomidate the fuel that is being chucked in?

If its a trade off to run rich @ idle but gain a bit more grunt at certain RPM's then fine.. i can live with that, just wanna make sure that this isnt a problem ..and that Fuel is being lobbed in the chambers without sufficient air to burn it..

Is this a valid question or am i missing something here

Simon,

If thats the norm..mine isnt far of that TBH.. 1k is a overstatement on my part..

correct me if im wrong but as that is a revised fueling program/command if you like then the AFM will only allow the stock amount of air in,hence more fuel than needed>rich.

So whats happening when im moving?.. that scenario doenst come into play does it? ... i feel the extra grunt so the chips doing something

All im trying to do here is to make sure my engine isnt getting porked as more fuel than what is needed likes to eat away rings!

2 people who have stood behind my car, one of which was Tourindaddy who knows a bit about e30's said its running sweet and that isnt good etc etc.. thats the sole purpose of my question/thread

he has a chip but its Viper, compleltey different set up as HIS AFM was adjusted to suit..

Do i do that with mine.. he says yes..outhers on here say No,its plug n play

lol... whos right?

Tourindaddy who knows a bit about e30's said its running sweet

that means the hydrocarbons are way up on stock, idle mix is either too weak or too rich.

pull the chip and return it fella, whatever the case I'll look into it for you OK , you must gt the replcement I send you setup by the MOT man with his machine though OK,

pm sent

i would try to refit the zone chip
when you do this leave the car to idle for at least 10 minutes before you drive it.
do not touch the eccelerator even if it idles bad or smeels of fuel.
let the car learn the new setting then take it for a drive and it will be ok.
even if you had a viper chip you would need to do this process.

more often than not peole hear the engine run rough and it the throttle which is bad
