Hi You'll

Some of you may know I changed my diff from 3.73 to a 3.46 to give me a lower revving engine whilst driving furiously all over Europe.

It seems a shame - I've kept the 3.73 LSD for ages - but decided to let it go.

Major CAVEAT - it's with me in Germany - so God knows what issues and costs would be incurred getting it to the UK - that said I do visit and of course our readership here
are not only from Blighty.

Unit as follows:

Good Condition, does not leak. Very Quiet with no bad noises.
130,000 m, This came from my car ( E30 325i ) as I replaced it with a 3.46:1 for quieter motorway driving.
It has had regular oil changes and has new output shaft oil seals. The support rubber is in good shape.

It is not covered in crap - but has been surface rust treated, so could be enamelled - does not screech or rattle or knock.

NEEDS FILLING WITH NEW OIL The new fill and drain caps are finger tight only.

I Nickel plated the tag - not sure how long it will last looking so shiny!!

Sorry to say I'm looking for 750 quid - market being what it is right now - please ask if you have thoughts this - I'm not in a hurry -

Best wishes everyone

Paul :-)

It’s not the question of carriage costs but the likely costs of import duty and vat!

Yep...it's really tricky...and ferry costs are high so it rules out a carpark switch in Calais !!

Do they charge vat on second hand stuff from a private sale? It's just mental...

I think it is up to HMRC how they or the agent dealing with it interpret it. My understanding is anything over £135 is charged VAT. Second hand and private seller stuff is a grey area. All to do with the result of Brexit.

Silly question…
I have a 3.91 open diff on my 325i automatic. Would a 3.73 LSD make the drive better?

Feed your data into this chap:

http://www.kabamus.com/garage/gears.html

You'll get a reduction in revs at a given speed, but also a loss in acceleration although to be honest on a 3.46 I didnt really notice much...1st gear became slightly more useful but not much!!!

Even second hand stuff is taxed, this is why they ask you for value, if you think marking it at what you paid is a good idea for insurance purposes its not, most couriers have a disclaimer in the smallprint that car parts are not covered by their insurance

You would have thought that you wouldnt have to pay tax on second hand car parts since tax is paid with the purchase of the vehicle they came off of when new…

Its coming in to UK so you pay tax on it regardless if the tax was paid initially in an overseas country. When we were in EU the rules were different.
