You'd probably have to fabricate a custom bracket to get it to fit under the seat.

The oem item is a horseshoe shaped frame with a cradle at the front to hold the extinguisher. The whole assembly then bolts to the underside of the seat using the pre-existing holes. Remove one of the seats and it all becomes fairly obvious.

He has an extinguisher already, Mart is only looking for a picture of the bracket. It is simple enough design and I'm sure he can knock one up at work for a couple of quid :D

New the extinguishers are only about £60 or much less if you don't mind not having the BMW logo :thumb:

It's the original bracket that's expensive, with the retaining clip etc

Agreed, if you want an original, in good condition (possibly even working) then yes they are expensive. There is one in fair condition on ebay now for £170 so they do come up.

But every new 1kg or 2kg extinguisher will come with a mounting bracket. A brand new 'Gloria' extinguisher (which BMW use) will come with a mounting and retaining clip. It is different to the old one being a simple mount and plastic retaining strap but works and can be bolted to the metalwork like the old full 'cradle' mount.

For anyone who is adept at metalwork, the seat mounting bracket would not be a difficult exercise.

Now and again someone makes a batch and sells them on ebay, like this guy. (although he has run out for the moment) but you could probably get one knocked up for half of that.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164272327583

£45 for one of those and about £37 for one of these
https://www.safelincs.co.uk/2kg-powder- ... oria-p2gm/

Would give you a proper 2kg brand new extinguisher that works, mounted correctly for about £80

I would still carry a firestick in the glovebox

That ebay bracket isn't much use without the cradle to hold the extinguisher, or am I missing something?

Correct. You still need the extinguisher bracket - which BMW still sells new alongside with the extinguisher.

Yes you are :D

As I said above in the post a new extinguisher, either aftermarket or a new one from BMW will come with a bracket to hold the extinguisher. Extinguishers are not the same shape so each one has a bespoke bracket for it.

The 'Gloria' 2kg one I linked to above even has captive nut keeps in the plastic to bolt them to the ironwork. I have one fitted in all my cars.

No-one makes a cradle-like bracket any more and if you have one it will only fit the '80s or '90s extinguisher it was made for

So the Gloria is a straight fit into the eBay bracket linked above?

You are probably going to drill mounting holes as all the extinguishers have different mounting holes. My extinguishers bought 5 years ago have different holes to the one I bought last year. 2kg extinguishers are different to the usual BMW ones as they are only 1kg (BMW did do 2kg extinguishers as I have one) More chance of actually doing something with 2kg.

I stole it and fitted it to my Baur and I know it`s no where near OEM, but my Angle eyes after market headlights and the fact she is a Baur do not bother me winkeye winkeye .
A very 1980`s addition , just behind my drivers seat , on the door card and sit`s really tight to it.
I hope I never have to use it because it might rip the card when I tear it out in anger but I hope it`s never the case.
I have just bought one for the other side

mart seeing as you are a tool maker i'm sure you would be able to drill new holes in the bracket if needed,

there's also this bracket which i'll be ordering myself in the next week or so,

https://www.tegiwaeuro.com/kap-industri ... -94-m.html

but if you look the holes are elongated so might not need altering to fit.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

I’ve ordered https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164272327583 as someone recommended it. Only realised that it’s LHD after ordering and seller didn’t respond so I’ll end up with fitting it on the front left seat I guess.

Indeed. Just surfacing this in case someone else is more picky than I am. I’m happy to have the extinguisher in the left seat and even prefer it.

The seats are both the same, why would it fit on the left and not the right? :?

My mistake only noticed that myself, there was someone a while back selling ones that were RHD and I thought it was the same guy. 2 mins with a grinder and mig and it is reversed.

Small matter of the slide adjust handle that gets in the way. The bracket, including the OEM ones are slewed to one side.

Hi guys. The new fire extinguisher from BMW (same P/N as realoem) does NOT fit in the old bracket.

It wouldn't let me attach a video so here's some screenshots from video. The new one does come with its own strap on it and a small back plate that fits onto the metal bracket however doesn't fit into the nice sturdy OEM holder.

But you are taking the new extinguisher out of its new holder and trying to push it into the one for the old extinguisher. Each extinguisher comes with a holder and you bolt that to the bracket.

Granted the holder for the new extinguishes is not the fancy 'cocoon' type like the older ones are but that is progress, lighter, cheaper.....but at least it will put a fire out.

Personally, having used these things in anger a couple of times anything less than 2kg is just eye candy

Ah not worried about it fitting in a standard holder as I not don’t have one anyway.
