Knackered cable. Inner cuts a groove into the outer on the inside of the bends.
Simply rotating the cable 180 degrees will give a bodged cure.

Cables not expensive and a 5 minuet job but I'll bet you will find the pedal bushes shot and possibly grommets as well. Just did all mine and a new spring, amazing difference.

I was just going to mention those 4-5 small bushings and one large one in the pedal box/assembly.
