well after the past few weeks of trying to work out why the oil was leaking from the rear of the sump on my b27 it looks like i may have found the reason.
in the past few weeks i have had the sump off several times, replaced the gasket with a brand new one, even used some RTV sealant on it but still a drip when the front of the car is in the air,
well today while i was searching after replacing the gasket & keeping it in place with a dab of RTV i went round the back of it with some cheap degreaser (from the kitchen) & what do i find??
a hairline crack/split on the lowest point at the rear on the drivers side next to the bolt on the corner (about 5mm in between the 2 bolts).
so, looks like it's sump off (AGAIN!!!) & either get it ally welded & gummed up with plenty of JB weld.
why is it always the last place you look & never where you expect it??

if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

tell me about it, fuming is an understatement
well i've cleaned it up as best i can, going to let it dry for a day then scuff it up with some 100grit sandpaper, degrease it again then break out the JB weld.

It can be used on various substrate,
I've only used it a handful of time over the years so not much experience with it.

well i made a start on the in situ repair to the crack.
drilled a small hole in the end of it to stop it going any further.
degreased the area thoroughly,
keyed it up with 100 grit sand paper,
used a very small amount of milliput to fill the crack then added a layer of JB weld,
going to eave it to set/cure then smooth it over & add another layer if needed, then leave it 48hr's before i refill with oil to see if it's worked.
only problem i ran into was finding out the gearbox mounts were FUBAR'd, good job i had some bolt through poly one's in the shed.
so they got changed while i was under there.
all in all not bad for a couple of hours work.

I've used Super Steel - I think Plastic Padding make it...get it from Halfords....had an annoying leak in the radiator where the drain plug fits...sealed it with SS about 3 years ago....solid.
I saw a clip on the tube where some geezer welded a diff with it...lasted about 10 minutes!!

well just been out to check on the milliput in the crack & that had cured nicely,
sanded it back so it's all level, keyed it with some 80 grit,
mixed up the JB weld & set to covering the milliput with it making sure to give it a good even coat,
just got to wait 24hr's now for it to fully cure & uf need be i might give it a 2nd coat just to be sure,
hopefully by the weekend i'll be putting the oil back in & fingers crossed there's no more drip.
