I have the basic OBC (? 6 buttons can't remember)
The screen has bleed.
Does anybody replace these?

The screen is easy enough to change, but, AFAIK, there is no source of replacement screens, other than an E30 OBC with other problems.

Well, as per senna's link, it seems that an enterprising young man in Germany has indeed started producing replacement screens, after needing to source a screen for the clock in his Porshe 944!

I've bought one from them, it arrived very quickly, but I wont be fitting it anytime soon, too busy at the moment.

let us know how you get on, Steve. It's a good price and if it does the job, it's much better than replacing the whole OBC unit. I like the idea of keeping the original one and being able to replace the screen.

it's the 13 button one I would be interested in too. I'm guessing the exchange process will be the same for both..

Thanks Steve. Let us know how you get on with this please. The instructions seem fairly clear.

That's a bit harsh, the sump from a 320i is worth keeping....

Got one of these during the week. All fitted up fine - clipped the back of the OBC back on and the screen went down in a blaze of glory. Compared it to the original, and its significantly thinner - so its a good bit more fragile. Pretty irritating to have to fork out for a new one again.

What do we need to know to avoid your mistake?

Really don't know to be honest - have had the OBC's apart a good few times without issue. The LCD casing from my OBC was different to the one in the instructions - my good OBC doesn't have a ribbon connector, I had another unit with the ribbon connector - see below, not sure if that caused a problem. The website says its not suitable for US OBC's for some reason.

The casing wasn't overly tightened when being screwed down. Clipping the backpiece of the OBC back on shouldn't have caused any problems, but there was an audible cracking noise when it went. Potentially the LCD hadn't sat into place correctly or something.
