Thanks for the advice. The Wiki helped me hugely too. Just bought my first E30 after owning various ///M cars and Z3s, Z4s.

She's a Zinnober Red, 1987 chrome bumpered, manual 325i with 71k miles on the clock. Can't wait to get driving her.

Tidy! What did you buy it for - as an owner of an equally good example I would be interested, please. PM me if you don't mind.

That is one nice cab, well done ! You need to get the plastic cap to cover the front bumper mounting nut and ditch the bottle tops for a set of bbs cross spokes unless your after originality.

Picked up the 325 today. Lovely drive home and the engine is a real peach. Huge smile on my face all the way back :)

A few minor jobs to sort out over the coming months. Some essential, some nice to do.

- New springs/shocks: suspect these are the originals. Bottomed out at the front on speedbumps, so wouldn't hurt.
- Temp gauge not working.
- Replace plastic trims on hood.
- Replce rubber window strips if possible along rear.
- Repair drivers seat release as the back currently doesn't move forward.
- Replace boot strut.
- New timing belt, thermostat, water pump at some point.
- Also engine block coolant plug gasket, coolant refresh, drive belts dist. cap and rotor.
- New gear stick bushes.
- Check brakes. Possible updated hoses.
- Inspection 1.

Regarding the seat take the back cover off, two screws on the bottom and the plastic bit on the lever just pulls and the surround pops out you can on the drivers seat work the back over the metal lever if not there is a screw inside and it unclips.

The cable has either snapped (you can buy replacements) or has come adrift while you are at it check the tightness of the screws that hold the seat back.

Also fit a switch to the antenna power circuit so when you aren't listening to the radio you can lower it.

I got my boot strut from SGS some people have had issues with them not fitting so check the numbers.

Which plastic trims on hood?

Rear trim do you mean the ones with the flappy rubber bit over the door pillar?

I think your car has been lowered a bit already. Looks a bit lower than standard - could be wrong!

Thanks. Looks an easy fix on the seat then. Will check all when in there too. Interested in the antenna switch idea so will investigate.

Struts wise I've used SGS before and found them to be pretty good so will be dropping them a line soon.

The trim is the larger, flat plastic covers at each forward point of the hood plate. One is cracked so I may as well replace both and have a spare. Is the rubber supposed to be flappy underneath then?

Thanks. What surprised me most was the lack of squeaks, rattles or taps from a car this old. More space for that great exhaust note :D

Post a photo up of the trim you want to replace to give us an idea, to cut power to my antenna I fitted a make or brake (old rear screen heater switch with the decal rubbed off) in to a spare socket above the stereo.

Trim image here. It's the top part.
Also see the lower left rear window rubber trim. Is this easily replaceable too?

Just back from my specialist. They got her up on the ramps and all looks good under there. Going to waxoil the sills when she's in for some work.

Booked a full Inspection 2, new timing belt, water pump gaskets etc. While in we're going to replace the fuel lines as there's a slight whiff of petrol. New head bolts and gasket, fix temp gauge and central locking, new springs and shocks (prob B4 and oem springs) all round plus subframe bushes, wishbones and control arms. Also going for a new windscreen weather strip, thermostat and alt/power steering belts.

Once all that little lot is done I'll be happy and can then fettle other little bits and pieces here and there.
