Here's the deal, when i turn full lock, i can hear whining/sqeeking which eventually becomes a groaning noise. I flushed the ATF fluid (as it was murky) anf check around for leaks etc. Could it be the pump ?

it can only be one of 2 things.... bad pump, or steering rack... i had same problem and changed the pump as its easier and cheaper, unfortuneately, prob was still there so changed the rack and its all quiet now

Holding the steering on full lock is the best way to destroy the pump, I would suggest you try not to do so. And as long as it is providing adequate assistance I would be inclined to leave it. If it is becoming excessively heavy/groaning at low speeds you might have cause for concern. Why not keep an eye out for a second hand spare if you are worried?

Bugger mine does this to, I thought it was the pump belt slipping. Is there any way of telling exactly which part needs replacing?fannyj wrote:Here's the deal, when i turn full lock, i can hear whining/sqeeking which eventually becomes a groaning noise.

The groaning comes from the pump, which is being overloaded. The handbook specifically warns about keeping the steering on full lock for more than a very few seconds.
