Finally got round to doing a job i have been avoiding for a while now.
The manual sunroof didn't want to open and there was signs of rust on the panel.
Eventually got it opened enough to remove the panel to find what i already knew.
After i got the panel out i can now see why it didn't want to open (apart from the rust that is).
The guides either side seen to be out of sync.(anyone know how to sort this ?)Also how do you remove the sunroof headlining panel ? (the wee metal arms)
Next was the head lining to come out and clean off the old crap ready to retrim. Also put inners and outer tie rods on the newly purchased purple tag.

Sync. by removing the motor and gearbox assembly, manually pull each side of the mech. to full tilt (I think there's a couple of holes for pins each side that line up when this is achieved, but I've never used them), connect the electrics back to the motor, use the switch to set the motor to full tilt, and refit.shedrool83 wrote: The guides either side seen to be out of sync.(anyone know how to sort this ?)Also how do you remove the sunroof headlining panel ? More importantly, how did it get out of sync in the first place? Hopefully no damaged gearbox cogs.
IIRC, the small metal arms just pull off. It's definitely not difficult, or I would remember.

It's does look like the arms just pull off put they weren't coming easy so thought i'd check rather than break anything.Brianmoooore wrote:Sync. by removing the motor and gearbox assembly, manually pull each side of the mech. to full tilt (I think there's a couple of holes for pins each side that line up when this is achieved, but I've never used them), connect the electrics back to the motor, use the switch to set the motor to full tilt, and refit.shedrool83 wrote: The guides either side seen to be out of sync.(anyone know how to sort this ?)Also how do you remove the sunroof headlining panel ? Its a manual sunroof and the handle was slipping now and again when i tried to get it open.

Well, that explains how it got out of sync. Hopefully, no damage gas been done to cables or gears.shedrool83 wrote: Its a manual sunroof and the handle was slipping now and again when i tried to get it open.
Be very careful of the large stainless steel plates when you dismantle the mechanism for cleaning and lubrication - the edges are razor sharp.
Pull the cables out of the tubes, clean off all the old grease and apply new.
Synchronising the cables is much the same with a manual roof as with an electric. Just set the manual winder to full tilt before refitting it.

My hands seem to always look dirty no matter how hard i scrub them so a bit more black marks on them isn't a problem
The only time i get them totally clean is if i'm off work for a week or two

A year nearly to the day got i posted this and its finally in paint.
Wee summary since most of the pics have disappeared

My first attempt of painting a whole car from start to finish.Few runs in the clearcoat to sort out and a colour sand but quite happy with it . I'll do the door checks and the engine bay when the engine comes out again .I did plan to keep the car silver but marrakesh brown came out my mouth instead of silver at the paint suppliers.
