for the price of a tatty set of non-staggered Alpina alloys, i picked up this little gem from nice Indian gentleman in Wolverhampton.

Yes, it's a Baur, and I like it.

It's also a 325i manual with less than 100k on the clock and in pretty tidy nick. Probably a week with the welder will see all the grot gone and the black leather interior is pretty knackered but.....it's got potential....I think.....

The down side is 21 years ago it was a cat C or D. I've been under and over it as best i can with a decent torch and I can't see any sign of damage or repair. I can only assume it was stolen recovered ?

Anyway, options are: Flog it on, Frag it, Resto it or keep it MOT'd and enjoy some topless Baur street cred....

I'll have a poke about and get some crusty pics up to keep Pete's Kleenex tissue usage rate up and take it from there.

Good to see you today Jim, did you notice the two 40 something milfs checking out your new steed as they walked past? :D
Rarity value is 9 out of 10 IMO

any panels that have been replaced usually still have small rectangular paper part-number stickers on the reverse-side somewhere.

You too mate. MILFs....LOL , that was funny....

I got on the M42 as it was getting dusk and a lad in a van kindly told me my light board was duff on the trailer and i had no lights....

So put the lights on the e30 which lasted about 10 mins till the battery went flat and by then it was pitch dark and I still had 168 miles left to go....so pulled into the services.

I couldn't get the lights working, tried new bulbs, wiggling all the connections, fuses.....nothing worked.

Running out of options, I bought some small torches, little mini ones for bikes from the petrol station, took the bulbs out of the trailer board and popped the torches in behind the lenses., sort of fake lights which looked pretty good actually.

No indicators or brake lights so took it really steady and got home about half ten.

Pain in the ass !!!

You mightn't be to hot as a sparky, but absolute full marks for initiative!
Nothing wrong with a Baur these days. Their time has come.

Thanks Brian and Dan. It kept me out of trouble with the law and the ass end of the trailer lit up, so probably the best I could do with no tools and only the tat for sale at the services. I'll re-use them as xmas presents for the kids.

I was 3 days away from getting an M3 until the buyer (mentioning no names) sold it to someone else....

The paintwork is shagged mate anyway, little dents, laquar peel and stone chips etc.

cheers

:)

Right o, I've decided that despite the category claim in 1995 that I'm going to restore it. I'll probably do the bodywork and interior first then reuse all the oily bits and just replace knackered parts as needed. This should mean I can have it stripped and welded by Xmas and in the paint shop early next year.

Not planning to modify it at all, except fithat the spare 2.7 short engine I have.

Where do you find that info out Jim? Even only 122 rhd manual makes them pretty rare. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Hi, there is a "Baur" expert on the Facebook page, I met him a couple of times over in Holland also. Nice bloke and has a few Baurs himself. He has all the build data for them. His name is Jeroen Janssen.

The car is just going to have the usual strip down, weld, bodywork and re-paint, replacement interior and a good service.

Hi bmwtfm

Thanks, the lads I use for painting are rubbish to be honest, someone said that Stevie Wonder could do a better job after 5 pints.....but they are cheap and it gets the car off the drive for a couple of weeks.

The lad who runs the body shop is a bit camp and if i buy him a couple of babyshams he gives me a special treat in his office :)

Cheers

Well, i've made a start stripping this stinking old rot box down. Most of the interior went in the bin as it was utterly horrendous, the smell from 6 foot away made me feel sick.

The search for rust didn't take very long, it's got its fair share....and more

Both jacking points shot

Some repairs round the A pillar needed and the roof

The ass end needs loads of work, here are the low lights

Then we come on to the rear offside shoulder which is packed full of filler at the moment. House of horrors in there for sure.

There's more....lots more.... but this will keep me busy for a while

Thanks.
