gonna pull this engine and box and put the 2.8 back in with an untested by me e36 zf box i've had lying around for a while . i've bought a 328i manual prop and new e30 centre bearing .

if i bolt the zf box to the b30 then the 6-speed might never find it's way back in the car .. so a bit method in the madness .

wonder how much this box is gonna cost to refurb

Is the cover a modified Sachs one Mick? Looks like the same cover as the kit I've just bought

What would cause it to explode like that?

This is the combination I'm running on my touring :? I'm not overly impressed.

The guesstimation is that its not a 325i clutch, more likely a 525e clutch which is designed for a car with less power.

The CG clutch is a Sachs part but has uprated diaphragm spring and straps, the only Sachs part is the outer housing of the cover. The LUK centre plate also has uprated springs and friction material, again its just the hub itself that is LUK

Ive just bolted up a dual friction one this morning

Thanks Dan.
Is it worth getting the CG clutch over a standard Sachs 325i clutch?

I'm wondering if I've got a 325e clutch in mine. It seems to struggle with the M44 :?

we are going with the theory that they build the covers from a sachs base cover, same again using the luk clutch plate centre housing . when i enquired about my order they said it was in the workshop

proof is in the pudding as you say mate , gotta run it in first though.

well that clutch lasted not long ha ha , f00kin straps were made out of toffee !

it appears the cover straps on these stage 2 clutches are standard sachs shizzle and there are only two of them as opposed to the newer sachs cover plates which have x3 straps so they are using old stock . they said they would upgrade the cover straps for me @ £40 all inc so i was off to leeds the next day to get this shit sorted out once and for all .

[ i thought i had bought a clutch that would take abuse and not fail on the first ask of a bit of spirited roundabout hoping ]

knock knock ...any thieving coonts in ?

Image

any way trying to remain calm and sort it out i was soon on my way home with x3 thicker straps on the cover ....this is what i should've been given for £266 delivered in the first place

Image

engine and 5 speed box back out [ i fitted the 5 speed due to the tick over noise from the 6-speed and promptly went back to 6-speed with this uprated, uprated clutch lol ] 6-speed ready to go back in .... it's the tits over the zf 5 speed .

Image
Image

yup ^^^^ thats f00ked it :(

Image
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
new thicker straps ... how it should of been done !

Image

ep90 is good shit 1st 2nd are a bit stiff when cold but the noise is halved on tick over so that'll do me .

Image

aaand back on the road with 300 miles under it's belt this time and feels strong !

i'm off to york raceway this saturday for a pre- santa pod shakedown :woohoo:

that was the main plan but had to cut the back off the lights and involve some blue peter skillz with a roll of uber executive reflective tin foil for effect . i couldn't be arsed to core drill the panel and have a 12v charger hooked up with some sort of pir detector .... i did give it some thought though using something like this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/22-LED-SOLAR- ... SwwpdW2H3J

i prefer changing engines tbh :D

Syntrax is the later version and should be fine.

The first ad is a bit worrying because the picture seems to show SAF-XO. Might be my eyes though.

the seller of the first link confirmed SAF-XJ and Gareth approved it so i purchased 2ltrs and saved some money ,and on that note >>>>>

i decided to fit the willwoods this afternoon and realised i need to lose my dust shields , i'm not going to cut them up as they are in vgc so i'll remove them properly .... i could do with new front wheel bearings any way tbh .

i managed to get a pair of GSF front hubs for £76.80 , cheers for the heads up on that Craig ;)

i'm gonna try an e30 slave or am i pissing clutch fluid away ? my bite is high but could be down to the 2mm clutch fork weld add on ?

if i do the slave change and it's no good i'll do the clutch swap .... or that's what i'm kidding myself with lol .

there is a buttertubs run meet thingy going on early April through yorkshire dales country that i want to do , i think i could nurse the bitch through it before i pull it apart again as it is , after all it made it to pod and back like it is :D

i just need to give it less abuse and it responds ... no fun it that though

Nothing wrong with a high clutch release, less work for the clamping springs, just make up a clutch stop. Over use of the pedal wears the springs out faster.
Fitting an E30 slave on an E36 box is a waste of time, it will just explode in the bell housing :D
