What should my 325i Auto be doing to the gallon around town?

About 22 MPG is BMW's figure.

Thanks, the big hole in my exhaust probably isn't helping!

All part of the fun though, I've always said sub 20mpg is a good thing because it means your in an enjoyable car :-) Ive always (personally) thought looking at mpg took the enjoyment out of it and as such I've never bothered :-) Hope your getting on ok with the car :-)

Absolutely agree Mr Lachs, I don't worry about it anymore, it's 'smiles per gallon' . Sorry for awful pun. I just monitor it to make sure it's fairly constant these days :D

Haha brilliant bosers, smiles per gallon is the way to look t it i agree if it needs it it gets fired in, but yes good to know if its drastically altered for some reason.

One that's working as it should be, engine and suspension, is even more fun, with better MPG as a bonus. One of the problems with E30s is that they tolerate neglect so well, and the deterioration of parts goes largely unnoticed, until you drive one in good condition, and realise what you've been missing.

Just been reading the E30 Wiki and it mentions the OBC can read US and UK Gallons, I'd better check it's reading right.

Are you basing your figure on the OBC? I'd say a more accurate way would be to work it out manually.

Not unusual. up to 34mpg on a run, 24-27 with the mixed shite traffic on the way to work and 15-20 around town.

Not really that unusual. The engines are pretty low compression giving crap efficiency.

cruising at 50-60 back from leicester to london once i only used 1/4 tank literally door to door m1 run then around the m25 to south london and up into croydon,

it was very very heavy rain, so was taking it easy, they can be eco if driven mildly, mines a manual 2.5 though! and engines all been refreshed,

OBC goes by what it thinks the injectors are feeding into the engine. If the injectors are old, they are likely to be actually injecting considerably less than this.
