So first trackday done after a big rebuild/prep job that started November last year. Car ran fine, almost (it was taken to bits, so did expect it not to work perfect).

Started of with a fried ECU, so had a good friend deliver one from his project cars as he is running mega squirt... Drove it to scrutinering, couldn't drive away from there. Good start...

The car handles perfect, even though its running with a welded diff. I have bought an LSD but need to figure out how to bring ring gear closer to the pinion gear. The LSD is from a 2.65 diff and I'm running a 4.10. Anyway not a hint of understeer. Just send it in!

Here is the issues I need to fix:

-Fuel surge on right hand corner. As I can figure out and find on the internet, it’s because of the transferring of fuel from left to right side of the tank(63L) is not working, bad fuel pump etc. If anybody have ideas of a good setup with standard parts and not a fuel cell setup, I'm all ears! It has to pass an MOT and fuel cells are not approved in DK...

-New generator as the its only charging with 11-12V.
-To noisy(I don't see a problem in that. 106dB at driveby....)
-Electrics played up a bit, but I did a full rewire so did expect that to play up a little.
-Brakes starts to get very spongy after 15-20min of driving. I had the brakesystem fully apart, so might just need to be bleed again.
-Hand brake is dragging a bit. I installed a completly new handbrake system as it was taken away(old rally car).

Its not to bad really, most of the fixes are easy to sort out. My biggest worry is the fuel surge!

Spec of the car:

E30 325I
M50B25TU engine with different cams (don't know which).
It hits the limiter at 7000 and has been dynoed to 205bhp..
BC racing suspension, which is quite nice!
4.10 welded did. Which to my surprise didn't make it a bitch to drive!
Toyo 888 tyres - 225/45/15
Standard brakes with EBC yellow pads. Might make some cooling for them.

The car will be used for hill climbs which means it has to pass an MOT and they are like the german SS here in Denmark! Just about got it through. Some MOT places will hit at the same place with their little hammer until there is a hole and say: you got a rust problem! Also, hill climbs are short, only 2-3 miles at a time. So it’s not going to be any heat problems...

So all-good fun to drive. Fast as well :)

Can you use a swirl pot?

Do you run braided hoses? Standard hoses won;t cut it when the brake fluid gets hot. I use goodridge all round which are great. Just get a decent crow spanner for taking the old hoses off as the unions will be cheese.

Hi, thanks for the feedback.

Nope, swirlpot is not legal when it has to be roadlegal I'm afraid. The silly thing is, if I buy a car from lets say UK and import it to Denmark, which has MOT and a swirlpot then its okay. EU rules.....

I am looking at changing the fuel pump to start of with. Its the original one so it might just be worn out. I will check the fuel tank as well to see if its full of rust etc.

Yes, I am running braided hoses at each corner. Copper hoses up till each wheel then braided hoses to the calipers.

Is it an aftermarket tank? The original tanks are much better, you could always cut the tank open and make a taller pot for the pump to sit in

Its an original tank I think. Never thought of open the tank though. You gotta make sure though when its welded together again its done properly!! I just bought a new pump so I want to see if that cures it.

Not difficult if you know how to weld, or know someone that does. If your pump has been changed in the past and one with the wrong type of pickup used then it could be down to that

Hmm, don't know if it has. What will a wrong picpup be/look like?

There is no expansion tank and vent canister so maybe it's connected up wrong??

I have the return going into the lefthand side of the car(under it) and the feed coming from the pump. Everything else has been blocked of???

Its a 63L tank.

Ahh, you mean the whole assembly with pump and level sensor?

If you block vents off you will never be able to get a full tank of fuel and it will eventually ruin the tank due to vacuum.

Pumps with a bag/net filter usually suffer from fuel starvation

I will give some feedback with results, thanks for the tips and replies!

A quick update on the fuel surge problem:)

Took the pump out and found the filter "sock" to be full of shit so I guess the pump didn't deliver enough fuel to make the siphon work. Changed the pump etc. Took out the second fuel sender and made sure that the siphon worked. It does, I can see the fuel being sucked over, very fast as well!

I also re-establish the vent hoses the previous owner had blocked up. Fingers crossed that was the problem!

Thanks all for the feedback:)
