ALARM REMOVAL CONTINUED & OBC RETROFIT June 2015

It's all coming together now, the car is still starting fine and things are looking much neater. I've even managed to tidy up all the stereo wiring, fit my 13 button OBC and replace the heater panel bulbs. Obviously still need to fit the temp sensor but that is on it's way.

Thank you, if only we could go back in time and invest in one for a decent price and keep it nice. Instead I choose to take this one that has been abused, badly repaired and messed about with and make the best of it within my ability. It's either this or I spend every penny I have on a mint one, but I need to eat and pay the mortgage.

This is turning into an extremely nice car! I can't believe the amount of wiring that has been removed from it..! 8O

If that temp is correct, it's a bit damned cold where you are! :D

I am in North Scotland right enough but I have the temp sensor on the way so will be a more accurate reading next week. Double figures would be nice!

WIRING COMPLETE June 2015

The loom is pretty much back to factory spec now after removing 4kg of after market wiring!

UNDERTRAY, WHEELARCH LINERS & DUCTING June 2015

The car has always looked a bit odd without the wheelarch trim and ducting so I sourced everything second hand and it all looks a bit more complete and less flimsy now

E36 SPORT SEAT & REAR HEADREST UPGRADE July 2015

A while ago I bought an E36 328i Coupe breaker so I could fit the engine to my E34. I kept the seats and always thought they would be good in my E30. I'm 6'2" and always found the E30 seats a bit small for my height. I stripped them down, re-dyed them to match the Cardinal Red then designed some brackets and had them locally manufactured. Now they are fitted I can say they are much more comfortable and feel a lot more robust than the creaky old E30 seats. They were a very tight squeeze and it was a lot of work getting them into place but they don't look too out of place in the E30. I also bought some rear headrest brackets and used the front E30 headrests.

Seats look superb mate, certainly a lot more to them than the e30 versions though at my height the standard sports are pretty comfortable!

Not driven my car in the dark yet but the cluster and dash lights don't seem very bright at all. I have adjusted the knob.

Good works JimF - may I ask where you acquired the undertray from and how difficult it was to fit - did you have all the clips etc with the replacement?
Thanks.

Remember the bulbs in your car are likely to be 25 years old, my dash is dull too and all could do with being replaced.

The undertray was from a breaker, it was ok to fit but I have had to use a couple of zip ties to make sure it is secure.

BASIC SERVICING WENT WRONG

A long overdue update, last year I started a servicing with the intention of changing the timing belt, water pump, cam seal, distributer cap etc. Whilst I had all the covers off I started cleaning everything up and decided to take the thermostat housing completely off as it looked very tatty. Well after thirty years on the car it was not for budging and after a while........I snapped the studs flush with the cylinder head!!!!!

After half a day drilling I eventually ended up snapping two stud extractors in the studs. I had to bute the bullet and take the head off and take it to a machine shop.

Try this if you use Google Chrome - works for me and i can see all your pics :)

"If you're using Google Chrome, go to the three dots on the top right side of the screen and click them. A drop down should appear. Hover your mouse over "More Tools," and when the next drop down appears, click on extensions. Go to the link towards the bottom that says "Get more extensions." In the search box, type "Photobucket Fix," and hit enter. Click the install button and once it's done, you should be able to see photobucket pictures again"[/b]
