Got the single vanos m52 and just wondering who has done a rebuild of the vanos unit? Is it easy to do? Where can I get the kit and dose it benefit much from it

I've done the seals on my vanos, it was pretty easy. You need to lock the camshafts with special tools, ( I borrowed some) then it's all pretty straightforward stuff. There's a well over the top write up on the Beisan? website, think they also supply the gaskets, I got mine on eBay. Cant comment on before or after as haven't driven it yet!

Whats the problem with yours? As said the seal naturally deteriorates over time, you don't need to lock the cams or touch the timing to change it though

Nothing I don't think the m52 in mine is on about 140k and not exactly had a quiet life a˜Š just dident know if these get tired or not and benefit from a rebuild

They don't need anything more than a new seal, unless its rattling like a can of marbles, in which case just fit another second hand unit. There are several ebay sellers doing bearing shims and what not but if its that bad its not worth messing with
