Awesome, give us the full low down on how the 3 litre feels over a 2.8 then
Looks good
and after all the work a new MOT is a great feeling
Seeing yours makes me want to keep my RG wheels, but I've just bought 2 new 15" tyres for MOT
Id also be interested to hear the difference of the 3.0 over the 2.8

1st gear just wants to spin with hardly any effort and a bit embarrasing when i don't want to do it lol ...... 3rd gear pull is great i don't need to thrash the bores out of it now. The extra torque is just what the m52 needed , i found myself kicking the clutch to get the revs up into vanos quicker when it was a 2.8 .

all my gears are fine but when on tick over the box is noisey unless i hold the clutch down ...pretty p1ssed off about this but not gonna let it spoil the moment as it works ok apart from this .
looks like i've been tucked up again, that's every gearbox i've had in the car now
anyhoo i've bought some better g/box gloup that might shut the box up a bit and my engine oil and filter turned up ...

Could be wrong Mick but think there's 3 different types of oil for the 6 speeders depending on what colour sticker your box has known it, think there was a green, orange and yellow sticker. Don't know why there would be a difference but sure when I looked into it there was.

How about the spigot bearing? Definitely the right size?magpie wrote:brand new clutch and bearing mate .BenHar wrote:Might be the release bearing, Mick.magpie wrote:all my gears are fine but when on tick over the box is noisey unless i hold the clutch down ...

Good point my standard IS one was the wrong size for the 6speeder had to get another off a beating company.BenHar wrote:How about the spigot bearing? Definitely the right size?magpie wrote:brand new clutch and bearing mate .BenHar wrote: Might be the release bearing, Mick.

Mick, my 6 speed is the same, with the clutch up and in neutral it does clatter a bit.
I was worried about it , did a load of googling and it seemed a common thing.
It's not got any worse a year later on.
I used Royal Purple syncromax oil for your info.

managed to locate a prop £75 delivered ... my eyes have been pulled out again
on a brighter note every coont else wants £99.99 + courier .
i'm not giving up on the 6-speed just yet ..... reconditioned might be an option .

What could possibly go wrong

X5 V8 for thrills, CRV for chills, Range Rover P38 V8 for sooooo much aggravation...
it's already gone wrong .... a gearbox repair isn't going to be cheap and i'll probably have to pull the engine out to remove the box .

The rattle at idle is the lay gear having a bit too much play/backlash. I wouldn't worry about it. If it bothers you that much drain it and bang some EP90 in there - not even remotely recommended by the manufacturer but it'll quieten it down. I did this on a five speed E46 unit and it's still going now and the gearshift is fine - a bit baulky in very cold weather.

Was a handful of sawdust that did the trick in my day.
