Been told by someone that worked at the dealers in the 80's that they were hand painted at the dealers with red nail vanish.
Any truth to that?

Is someone getting confused with the Sytner built Alpinas as they sometimes had hand painted red needles.

Surely painting you needles just means you cannot see how fast you are going in the dark as they won't light up any more?

You can still see E30 needles at night if they are painted as the instrument cluster is back lit from the top, needles not illuminated.HairyScreech wrote:Surely painting you needles just means you cannot see how fast you are going in the dark as they won't light up any more?

If you really want lit up needles, fluorescent paint and a few UV LEDs around the edge should do the job.
