SVA Test.........Why ?

Its a bit more than an "in-depth MoT"

SVA is a "Single Vehicle Approval"......

The Single Vehicle Approval (SVA) scheme is a pre-registration inspection for vehicles that haven't been type approved to British or European standards. The purpose of the scheme is to ensure that these vehicles are designed and constructed to suitable safety standards before they are used on public roads.

It's not something I've ever looked into what's involved.

I did some work for someone one day for getting the car through the test.

That involved a fitting an alarm, wiring in a rear fog and fitting something in the fuel cap so just an unleaded nozzle would fit. May of been other things as it was a few years ago.

The SVA test is quite anal, they will check the spacing's of the clips that fix the fuel and brake lines !!!

An E30 should not need an SVA test, as the model already has "Type approval"....

Best off asking on a kit car forum. The majority of them will have had to of gone through one. As Kam says, it's a lot more in depth than an MOT, and is actually meant to be more strict in some areas than the type approval proper manufacturers go through. There's a lot of stuff to do with measurements, like distance of the indicators from centre etc, all that bollocks.

The first thing to point out here is that it wont be an SVA. It will be an IVA.

You need to do some googling for the current IVA manual, I have it here but can't remember the link.

As it is a full bodied car that has been used on the road before then you will only be looking at a BIVA so only those sections are relevant.

The only other thing it could be is an Identity check of the car....

The car had an accident and they said I think it needs an SVA off memory.
It's all in writing somewhere , but gme a list of things they check on an IVA test.

It could be an identity check like already said.

Have you just bought the car? Who is they?

It won't be an IVA test for an accident damaged car, it will probably be a VIC which is simply to check the vehicle ID against the dvla records. That said, the car needs to be road worthy with no defects.

If the car was written off by the insurance company (either a cat c or d) a VIC marker will be put on the car (registration certificate). The car can be repaired and used on the road again, but only once it passes the dvla VIC.

The car will need to be MOTd and insured if you want to drive it to the VIC test - my brother trailered his to the VIC test as the MOT ran out while he was repairing it.

This is gonna confuse you all.
I owned the car 10 years ago well my mum and dad did.
The car got into an accident anyway they forgot which test it has to go so I'm kinda looking but you could be right with the vic check.

They won't even look at a lot of cars now on the VIC unless it has an MOT.

It has to be able to move under its own power, but apart from that, it can be far from complete and road legal.
