So this happened tonight..

Got in my car..
Saw the oil light was on..
Opened the bonnet..
took the filler cap off..
went into the garage..
got the oil..
filled her up..
made a small mess, so got a rag to clean it..
cleaned it..
SPENT AN HOUR AND A HALF LOOKING FOR THE BLOODY OIL CAP! TO THEN GIVE UP!!!! :@

I'm about to blow up. Anyone near me got a oil filler cap spare?

Not that old Oil Filler Cap thief again!! You ain't the first and you won't be the last, but I know that won't help.

It'll turn up just as you get a replacement winkeye

I have, managed 60 miles without it 8O How the engine ran properly or didn't shit itself is a mystery.

On the same vein, before my Transit was picked up, I topped up the coolant, and yep, spent half hour looking for the now invisible header tank lid.

Upon giving up through loss of temper, I went into the cab to take the keys out the ignition and there it was on the seat

I drove mine (first car) without it on for a day. It ran a little lumpy. I took a look to investigate and found the cap missing. Thankfully it was perched on top of the radiator. :)

It wasn't that bad. I must have been very lucky.

I had a focus once, bought cheaply because it burnt oil. Topped the oil in a rush, drove round for about a week wondering what the burning smell was from the heaters, turned out I left the oil cap off.

If you find an oil filler cap laying around now, you can use it to plug your petrol filler cap.
