A ten year old 200'000 mile E46 diesel with smoke issues and a rusty front wing.

Won't be my 2 grand! It was probably lovely when new but reading between the lines, he knows there are bills looming and he's getting out now.

By the time you've spent an arm on a leg on the m sport kit, then get the kit painted, then find a set of straight, staggered MV2's that will still need refurbishing, add decent tyres which for those rims will cost a bastard fortune, proper interior etc it will owe you an arm and a leg before you even consider any pre existing issues and will still be a leggy turd.

At 2k it's 1k too much to be a punt on what could be a throwaway car. I'd leave it Si, spend a bit more and you can get one with all the toys already fitted and a lot less on the clock.

Forget about the kit and the wheels. All it needs are sport seats.

indeed Mo, less attention.

I'm not buying it, we've one e46 in the house and don't fancy two. It just tickled me so i thought i'd link it up, the usual zone hate mob have been along!

Its alot different to the usual, blue, black, grey auto M sport tourings you see around.

I'm not so sure on the auto box either, diesel is for MPG so why would you fit a box that will cost you 5-6mpg

Indeed you can get more MPG out of a manual but the low end torque of a TD suits auto transmissions well.

That's why 16v 4 pot NA petrols with an auto are generally a bad thrashy combo.[/b]

The wings look fine to me. :? He does state in the ad there is "no rust", and it certainly looks clean.

I suppose a small blister could be the tip of an iceberg underneath though...

My next door neighbour has just bought a T reg 318i saloon for £400 with MOT. Its bullet straight and theres no rust like 99% of e46's down south, you just don't see many scabby ones down here.

Time of the month petal?

It's a boring spec leggy diesel that's just waiting for all the old age M57 woes to pop up one after the other.

You think your E36 has a few high mileage old age issues?

I've seen loads of nasty ones daaahn Saaaaf. The later ones seem to be worse as well as up here, the S and T rewg ones seem to last longer. Up here (only 150 miles north of Laaandan) they're all teabags. Not structural, but scabby. I dread to think what they're like 200 miles North of here (Newcastle etc).

As much as it pains me to say it, the E90 is a better bet now. The first ones are almost ten years old and they're just immune. They also feel like something from this century.

My 330 was an 03 and originally from Scotland  Structurally it was perfect though, had 1 surface scab smaller than a 5p on the drivers side inner arch, but nothing anywhere else including the front wings. Under the arch liners once I'd pulled all the mud out there was still plenty of factory wax and no grot at all. Good ones are still out there if you like that sort of thing but now I've had one I don't really want another.

I suspect that zone types wouldn't want to pay top dollar for one that's properly nice and would rather spend 40p on some shagged turd and then bitch like hell when it starts crumbling to pieces.

I enjoyed reading how much Andy was loving ownership of that turd in Car Mechanics - at least it wasn't his own money :D

EU02EVT was a Southern turd through and through, rust included. :D

It was quite a good car once finished. Most of it was new.

I never would of bought a turbo diesel but I was offered one and due to lack of better affordable options I took it. It suprised the heck out out of me as it does actually pull all be it once the boost comes on. They make good daily's in my opinion, good on fuel and some fun to boot.
