Wondering if anyone can give me some advise?
Came to my 318is the other day, put the key in the ignition and.. Nothing?! It just won't turn at all. Jiggled the steering wheel and turned the key, WD40, even rocked the car back and forth.
Now, I'm pretty sure the ignition barrel has failed.
It seems relatively easy to change looking on the net. Only problem is I can't turn the key to position 1 to release the barrel.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Try tapping the ignition barrel with a suitable hammer to try and free it off...

Yep tried that too, got all the casing off now and the ignition switch but still nothing.
Wondering if this has happened to anyone else? :(

Perhaps it would be worth jacking up the front of the car and waggling the front wheels in and out, which may jolt it loose...

Another thing you could try is removing the steering wheel and seeing if you can gain access to the steering lock bar to push it back into the lock.
