This is PDF of the full exhaust system by Scorpion

Am I correct / incorrect in thinking the downpipe section has x-pipe section ?

Most exhausts don't sound as good in sound clips unless in person
Except the E60 M5 with straight through exhaust on Powerflow social networking page

I will probably keep the old centre section so should I want a straight through in the centre section in the future they can use the exhaust flanges to build this without butchering the other pipes or OEM fittings and also should I ever sell it a full Scorpion should hopefully sell well :-)

They don't have a x pipe, nor is there anything that looks like a x pipe in that picture :?

And back to my earlier question, how was he going to fit a x pipe to a single pipe exhaust, and even better how was he going to charge you £100 for the privilege? Did the workshop have a glass door because he saw you coming :)

He wanted to do single pipe maybe to save costs and labour for himself
I did tell him I wanted x pipe as Kos was saying I should have it
The exhaust guy was basically telling me I don't need it and waste of time / money
And to do x pipe would need 2 exhausts pipes not one
I weren't keen on having it all merged to single pipe

I thought the bit by the down pipe where they appear to cross might be x pipe
Sorry I don't know a lot about exhausts as much as you!!

Ah fair enough, he seems like a bit of a cowboy. So £100 extra would have got you a twin pipe exhaust with x pipe?

You want the cross pipe to be roughly in the middle of the exhaust, but the position has an effect as well.

I used to have a scorpion. I don't think it's going to be as ASBO loud as you are hoping for

Yeah at least I know I am getting tried and tested product
And designed by proper engineers not cowboys
I felt like I was getting ripped off a bit
The more I think about it I'm glad I went for it

I will keep the old centre section mainly for the flanges so I have the option in the future to make the scorpion straight through without butchering a new scorpion exhaust

Also I think all the Y sections would they hurt the exhaust gas flow ?
This where we need a Zoner with good understanding of fluid dynamics would probably help

As long as the cross section of the single bore is of a good enough size, it shouldn't hurt flow. It's easier to get good flow rates from a large single bore than smaller twin pipes because flow rate increases exponentially with pipe size.

How can straight through with a back box be OEM, when clearly they were built with a middle box.
OEM is as they came out of the factory, and with the part made by the OEM manufacturer. Do you want it to look OEM or be OEM?
Also BMW no longer supply the two pipe back box for 325i.

Would LOOK OEM but wouldn't quite be OEM and would sound better!
Rear silencers and chrome tips are available from BMW I checked yesterday :-)

I find this feature a good read on exhausts design
Says basically you want low back pressure high exhaust velocity
This of helped by having straight through mufflers and small pipe diameters

Large pipe diameters produce low back pressure but also low exhaust velocity which can harm engine power

http://www.mikekemper.com/elantra/diyexhaust/

Edit

BMW OEM pipe diameter is 45mm = 1.77 inches
BMW OEM (325i) tail tips is 60mm
This article says optimum pipe diameter is 2.25 inches for 2.5 litre NA engines
Seems then OEM pipe diameter is too small ....

should give you some idea how an X pipe works,

also google X-pipe theory.

I'm like an excited school boy waiting for Scorpion full sports exhaust system

I rang up Scorpion to ask how many more bhp I could achieve with this. They didn't have any figures. Then I was like I can't wait for it and they were like they can tell I am excited from the mobile phone.

Anyway this was the reply I got to find out more technical information about the design and the power :-)

Just Le Mans tips for E30s

Kos swears they make more but I rang them up and spoke to them and they confirmed they just do Le Mans tips

I did tell Kos to ring them and sort some other tips if he is so confident

Can't go wrong with Scorpion system, tho I personally prefer the STW tips. They must have discontinued them as they don't have them listed on their website either.

Yes Scorpion from the e30s I saw on dyno day had a nice rasp!
Hopefully will be loud and have a nice reverb :-)

If you don't believe in fluid dynamics you expect zero bhp increase
I would be pleased with 5bhp
10bhp i would be lucky
