I'm thinking out loud here, Engine is a non vanos b25 . Am i right in thinking an M52 single vanos 2.8 crank would bolt straight into the bottom end and hey presto make a 2.8 M50?!
Both engines use the same length conrod at 135mm so i think it would work?

You will need to change the pistons too, so therefore new rings and a hone to the bore, head gasket and while its off a refurb.
Would be mad not to change to the M52 siemens management while your on.
BUT, it would make much more sense to spend a couple hundred on a 2.8 engine with loom/ECU etc

why change pistons Dan, i'd happily fit an M52 but can you upgrade the management on an e34 then?
I don't want to get the head off it and into piston rings and all that sh!t just a quick crank swap with some new shells and off i go type of affair

Its not that simple, the 2.8 crank has an extra 9mm of stroke which will smash the fook out of the head on a 2.5 donk
As I said previously the quick/cheap way would be to fit a 2.8 complete with some wiring changes

yeah you'd need the b28 piston and crank thought thats what you meant. stack height needs to be maintained.
we are talking cI blocks right? not hard new rings and hone if bores measureup well
perhaps you could use the eta rod the 4.5mm longer throw would be offset by the 5mm shorter rod lol

Also the ali block would mean the front end will sit very high, but i guess you could fit some lowering springs which u can get as the iX has its own front springs which are different to the rest of the e34 range

Iirc there is only 22KG difference between iron and alloy blocks so i dont think it would make that much of a difference.

i get it but your saying fit the M52 engine complete with the siemens managment
Will the M52 engine loom plug into the e34 is my question, maybe an M52 from an early e39 would do it?
