Went to take it for the MOT then this happened getting it out of the garage.

Took me an hour to sort it out by disconnecting the cable and rewrapping it round the cone but the cable has a number of kinks in it and it looks like it might go at some point. Missed my MOT slot

I rent the garage but organising someone to fix it will involve a bit of pissing about and having to put the car somewhere else while it gets done. I had a quick look at the web and it doesn't look overly complicated.
Are these simple to fix yourself? If so might have a go and deduct it from the rent.

You can buy a new cable and fit it.
All that is needed is to take off the tension and then retension it afterwards.
IIRC there are a couple of allen keys to undo on the main cross bar which then allows you to engage a couple small bars to allow you to turn the spring round and round to retension the cables.

Cheers - I'll look for the make on the back of the door - have seen a few youtube clips that give some instruction.hennabm wrote:You can buy a new cable and fit it.

Was that done at mates rates? If not, how much did it cost, if you don't mind saying.

MOT and oil service at dealer and then fitted new fuel gauge.
However, the new gauge came with the face marked in litres instead of just 1/2 and F.
So a quick swop of the old face to the new unit and voila - a working fuel gauge again

Tried to adjust tappets... had wrong feeler gauge... will try again in the week with the right tools.
Tried to fit new discs and pads... found no disc retaining screw in the drivers side front disc and couldn't get the calipers off so another failure.
Opened a big box containing fuel filler neck... looked at it a bit and then didn't even attempt.
Quite a bit for me to do this week including preparing the Mtech 2 kit ready for fitting and then breakdown of the entire car, fitting of new wing, ready for full respray.
Need to remove all interior including carpet. Carpet will be redyed black and leather is getting a full Lotus White makeover.

Sorted the central locking system out , at last i can lock the car
Turned out to be 2 motors and the conto, unit that needed to be changed. Now nice and smooth
Also changed the 4 o-rings on the head>coolant pipe on the s14 so no more water leak
And then took it for a drive for about 4 hours
