I'm attempting to replace a rear wheel bearing, one of the very few jobs on an E30 that I have not tackled!

I managed to remove the road wheel and the rear disc :D I've even removed the hub nut  but the drive shaft refuses to slide out of the hub.
Do I just need to hit it harder,or am I missing something?

Drive shaft is off at the diff end,my understanding of Bentley is that the hub needs to be removed to access the circlip.

To be fair, the sodding thing has moved in about 2mm,so I've squirted some WD40 at it and left it overnight with a puller tensioned on it!

Just a bit worried in case I'd missed something simple.Wheel bearing is so knackered that the disc has cut a groove in the brake back plate! :o:

As above, I use something like this -

Circlip stays in place until the drive shaft is out and the hub removed, then remove the circlip to release the bearing

Driveshaft has now submitted,as has the outer flange.
Circlip gave in with the use of two elderly small screwdivers.
Ball bearings fell out and ran for the darkest corner of the garage, leaving me with 'just' the problem of removing the outer race from the hub carrier and the inner race from the hub flange.

A couple of videos, might help :)

I think that's an E46, but it's pretty much the same process.

Thanks! :D

I note that the guy claims no 'special tools' are needed, then uses both a bearing puller and a bearing seperator, niether of which are in my tool kit!

Finally gave in on my attempt to extract the remains of the old bearing myself, and took the trailing arm off so I could take it to the local garage. We then discovered that my local GSF had sold me the wrong bearing...unusual,GSF know me well and usually get things right. They swapped the bearing without question and I was able to get the old pressed out and the new one in.The lad at the garage then suggested that he should press the drive flange in for me as well....when I got back home, the shiney new brake back plate gave me a cheerful wave from the garage floor...... :x

So this afternoon's job is to slice the new backplate up,bolt it in in two halfs, and then weld the bugger up.

Only need to cut across the narrowest part, where the cut out for the caliper is. You can twist it into place and bolt it up before welding.
Don't leave any weld where the side of the handbrake shoe slides.
