ews bits, prop shaft, check the diff may be lsd?
For EWS stuff, you need the control unit (behind glovebox), sender unit (on steering column), transponder ring (ignition barrel) and the key. Take as much wiring as you can with you - same with the engine loom.
As said above, prop. Also need engine mounting arms, electric fan if you're going to use. I make a habit of stripping fuses, relays, earth straps etc too as you never know when they might come in handy

Why would you want to delete the EWS?
I think some people do it to keep things 'simple'. Also I'm sure I've read somewhere that its required for a remap? Someone else will be able to confirm. No need to use e36 barrel, you can fit the transponder ring to the e30 column, nab the chip from the e36 key and fit it into a torch type e30 key. Worth retaining for security purposes imo.

It's the only immobiliser worth having.Motorhole wrote: Worth retaining for security purposes imo.
It takes me less than five seconds to deal with an E30 OE immobiliser fitted to BMW's instructions, and only a minute or so at most to deal with any aftermarket E30 immobiliser I've come across.
I cannot defeat an EWS immobiliser without hooking in another ECU.
ok cheers for the help
so for the ews i need:
box behind the glovebox
ring
chip in key
what about wiring where does it stem from is it just from the box to the ring and to the edu i presume? i want to try and get all i need before the car goes and i realise i need something important!!

I thought it was the same as EWS2 apart from the receiver is built into the unit?rich318i wrote:EWS3 is more simple to nick and really easy
Shocking easy

Ring plugs into 'box', 'box' requires an earth, permanent live and ignition switched live, and a single wire to the ECU.
'Box' also has relay contacts to interupt the signal to the starter motor, but it's not necessary to connect this in.
Edit: I've missed out the antenna receiver box, which simply plugs into the antenna ring and to the 'box'.

IIRC, you wired EWS2 into your late E36 compact. EWS3D (as found in late E36 compacts) works the same as EWS2 but the antenna ring is wired directly to the EWS module. The wire colours match up between the two, but the EWS module PIN numbers differ.leeparkes wrote:I thought it was the same as EWS2 apart from the receiver is built into the unit?rich318i wrote:EWS3 is more simple to nick and really easy

EWS3 is the later version and different again. I've not looked into it, but believe its more difficult to wire into a non-EWS3 car. Couldn't say how easy it is to bypass to steal a car.

Yep, stuff in the pic plus the key. Take as much wiring form the car as you can, including the complete engine loom. There are wiring diagrams in the wiki regarding splicing the E36 engine loom into the E30 body loom, but depending on how enthusiastic about wiring you are and how much you want to spend, DanThe on here does a plug & play loom in exchange for your engine loom from the donor. I don't consider it expensive given the amount of time and effort at saved me potentially tackling it for the first time!
