Not sure which question takes more thought.... My answer would be neither for both questions.

For the wheels why not stay original ?

F*ckit. You want to run 17's, do it .Its your car. Be happy with YOUR choice, not what some other self righteous **** thinks you should do. Customising/rodding was around before most people on the zone were born. Do what YOU want, not some other.......person.

Do what you want of course, but 17"s on an e30 do ruin the drive, and unless you sort the camber at the back the inside of the tyres get eaten rapidly

Only if the car is lowered, which will be the same regardless of wheel size.

Camber seems to wear out lower profile tyres quicker as there's less flex in the sidewall to let the tyre fold flat against the road.

My m3 seemed to wear the inside of 17s a lot quicker than higher profile 16s

Which is fair enough, but why did they come and ask for advice in the first place.

Both 17in alpinas and 17in motorsports are cheap crappy replicas of decent wheels.

If the original poster wants to fit 17s I'm not going to get my knickers in a twist, but I'd advise afainst fitting cheap rubbish ones.

There's probably not an e30 with 17" alpinas that isn't also lowered !
