I have manage to get the ball joint out away from the wheel but I can't remove it from the adjuster part as its rusted... I need to replace the whole lot but don't have a tool for the other end that inserts into steering rack, what else can I use?
Thanks, lee.

A big crescent wrench will get the steering rack end off.

No special tool needed as far as I know.
Just carefully bend the retaining tabs of the washer from out of the slots in the steering rack. The get mole grips or grip lock pliers on the two flat sides near the ball joint of the rods where they meet the rack and turn them off.
Set up the new trackrods to match the same in length as the old ones then get them tracked properly.

On an e36 the inner joint to rack uses the same spanner size as a viscous coupling. I would imagine an e30 is very similar. I did have to extend it a bit with a pole because they're damn tight
cheers,
