What does a 'SPORT' model actually offer above an 'SE'?

Hi...what is the real, tangible difference between say a 325i Sport and a 325i SE?.....Apart from the cosmetic aspect, is it just a lowered suspension? ......and a LSD?....with the remainder being the 'kudos' of a factory Sport model?...I just want to be sure, before I go spending my hard earned...

Perhaps I over simplified it...
Does the 'Sport' have bigger anti roll bars / firmer bushes / a quicker rack / a closer ratio box / bigger brakes / better oil and water cooling / .....?

It's all in the wiki pages.
It's the same shell, and engine but with a different gearbox, diff and suspension. Then has interior trim which is different from a standard e30
If your thinking of saving some money and buying a se, you still need to find a good condition one.
A sport will always hold a higher premium just because it's a 'sport'

Basically the Mtech2 Sport had an LSD, -15mm Mtech suspension, closer ratio 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears, 15" BBS, a black headlining, map light mirror, OBC, sports seats and the body kit. All of which could be ordered on any 325i from new.
If you're looking for a 325i, look at bodywork/rust first. A clean boggo 325i will be a better buy than a tired Sport.

All depends where you want to spend money and what end product and driving expirience you wantjmc330i wrote:http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/index.php/325i_Sport

1st - even a nice clean rust free 325i is not easy and hard to find, but finding a half decent one may need a bit if work, but if sport styling/other extras suspension and interior etc as you listed are a "must/want" then its better to buy a sport with it all , and it being a genuine end product , and spending even 2 grand on rust/body work , than buying a 325i and spending more on buying and adding all those bits to a 325i and ending up with a non genuine sport, so to speak
Buying a sport kit, all new fittings and it to be painted and fitted properly - could set you back £1000-1200 or something maybe to do a proper job , nice full sport interior £4/500 all in ,gear knob and steering wheel £150, full nice sport suspension £5-600 ? Map mirror and obc a couple of ton and messing about fitting ,nice 15"bbs with tyres £300-350 ,LSD £400, sort gear box ? etc etc could eat money on top of £3-4k for the car purchase for a nice clean 325i , and you also so not have to take the car to pieces and loads of time fitting it all or labour expense

Take the VIN to BMW and check that it really is a 'Sport'. Whatever is written on the V5 is no proof at all. There are plenty of real Sports that don't have 'Sport'on the V5, and plenty of fakes that do. Up to a few years ago, the DVLA would write whatever you asked them to as the model description.

That's my old car. Advert is very accurate. I brought it from Northern Ireland, did the bodywork and paint and then it sat for years.
Manual conversion was done properly, after I had sold it.
Congrats, you got a bargain.

In that case it will, in all probability, be exactly how it's described.

I just wanted to ask...did you sell it without the interior? If so, why?Topblag wrote:That's my old car. Advert is very accurate. I brought it from Northern Ireland, did the bodywork and paint and then it sat for years.

And, what can you tell me about the exhaust?...Its got a 6 branch manifold, Fitz Bitz centre, and Scorpian Le Mans back box ( so I am told )...is that a 'pukka' set up?...

Yes, I sold it without the interior as it was fooked. I did have a replacement but I sold that in advance of selling the car so, no interior.
It also didn't have an exhaust when I sold it so can't comment on that.

Don't hold your breath Pete, I know this car intimately and spent a bag and a half on fixing rusty bits when I got it. Been stored indoors ever since work was done.pacerpete wrote:979-SPORT wrote:pacerpete wrote:Anxiously waiting for bodge / rust pics ![/quote

For 2k, I would be suprised if it was a 'good'un' but hopefully a couple of grand spent wisely will have it at least as good as the usual 4k poobox![]()

Right, let me pick your brains Pete...how many genuine Sports were ever produced?......how many are estimated to remain?....if £4k is still a 'poo box', then what buys a 'minter'?....and what buys 'concourse'?......I see plenty of cars at £4/£5k..claimed to be 'mint' etc....pacerpete wrote:979-SPORT wrote:Hi Pete...apparently its a good un'?...pacerpete wrote:Anxiously waiting for bodge / rust pics !

Better check the exhaust for stains, 979. Or is that why it's not included in the sale?Topblag wrote: I know this car intimately

Nowadays 6-8K will get you something nice I would imagine 5 if you were very lucky, or even cheaper if you are super lucky like the guy on here with the very low milage sport.
