Here is my e36 m3 evolution. Wanted to do a thread as I’m planning on rehoming her soon”¦

It is finished in cosmos black and champagne leather. I’ve had the car coming up a year and this is what’s been done so far.

Once the car was back home Barry was commissioned to do a full inspection 2

With this then done we also changed all the power steering lines, clutch, gearbox seal, all diff seals, rear beam bushes, front disks, throttle cable, x4 Goodyear tyres and wheel alignment. Car was put to daily use and after a while a yellow inspection light appeared so was given an oil service. Everything has been done using OEM BMW parts ”“ have receipts. Car has been in storage for 3 months now. 4 lights remaining

The car runs a bilstein b12 setup with adjustable front mounts and ground control rear mounts. Other than that it’s entirely standard. Apart from the head unit, this is an alpine number which connects and controls your iPhone

Aircon has been removed
Viscous fan has been removed
Fog lights have been removed

She’s quite stealthy with model inscription delete x2 on the original spec sheet. Boot Badge \ Side Mouldings ect.

Is great fun to drive, very very easy to get wrong side off 100mph ”“ 3rd and 4th gear will get you in a lot of trouble if you’re not careful. However you’ll be grinning like a goodun, the S50 makes the most delicious noise. Sounds so nice when changing gear. The rev’s fall perfectly when you put the clutch in unlike the E30 which seem to hang and gradually reduce back down. The E36 M3 zips down as fast as it raises. I wonder if it is due to the lightweight flywheel on the E30? Mmmm

Anyway, she’ll be getting detailed soon and then up for sale. It’s been a great car to own and, more importantly, drive.

Looking dirty

Just a few things to mention/correct,

The front top mounts are ground control adjustable ones, the rear top mounts and trailing arm bushes are rouge engineering ones.

The front pads were expensive performance friction ones.

It also has a 3 way adjustable front anti roll bar, make unknown.

When the new clutch was fitted, the centre bearing and guibo coupling for the prop was changed.

The VANOS filter and bolts were changed at the time of the inspection 2 and the VANOS passes the test done with BMW dealer diagnostic equipment and performs as it should.

Also, the troublesome convoluted flexible section on the manifold to down pipe section had cracked and has been removed and replaced with a braided flexible section by some company, Steve will remember the name. All new gaskets were used.

When Steve says A/C removed, just the compressor, belt and a couple of pipes in the engine bay have been removed by a previous owner so it wouldn't take much to get it working again.

This really is one of the the better E36 M3's out there in terms of body condition, what with it being a Southern car all its life, no rotten sills or rear arches etc.

A very taught car to drive but not crashy or uncomfortable, handles, stops and goes great!

Flexi section was from Iridium Engineering. How much do you reckon to reinstated the air con?

The moredoors look better anyway, the more upright cabin and sharper rear lights suit the square shape better than the coupe.

Looks very tidy, but I'm affraid I'm not a fan of any of the light colour e36 interiors. I think I'd go black on black given a free choice of any saloon.
cheers,

Why was the 320d - a Southern car all its life - so rusty? I mean rust everywhere, with Titanic spec suspension.
My 25 year old E32 however - a Northern turd - still has all it's original brake pipes.

Obviously there are exceptions to the rule like southern turds that have lived by the sea all their lives or driven up and down a muddy farm track every day but in general, Scotch and northern turds are grimmer than southern/London turds.

Where in the south did the 320d come from?

It lived near Hailsham.

I've been in breakers down South (Bloxham, and Hunters in West London with Pacer) and E46's etc all look as scabby and rusty there as they do anywhere else. My Compact has been up here since 2000, isn't garaged (well, it is from yesterday) and again, isn't rotten, original brake pipes etc.

Chandlers Hailsham was the first BMW dealer I worked for, it's near Eastbourne and a lot of their customers were from Hastings or bex hill on sea. All coastal towns.

We did lots of front to rear brake pipes on all sorts, E36's E46's, even E38's!

My E46 330i wagon, a Sytner City (London) car which has lived in the M25 all its life has done over 106k and you could wipe the dust off the rear brake pipes and they would be like new.

You may have seen some crusty cars down here but have they been here all their lives? You really to know where a car has been all its life before use it as an example.

It's a known fact that northern/Scottish turds in general rot faster.

A friend of mine works for John Clark Aberdeen, when verde works and they are often doing brake pipes for a cars first mot! 8O :(

What do you call North? Sheffield is virtually UK Midlands. I've had a couple of E28's that came from Glasgow and both were clean. Another E32 from Glasgow was like the Titanic underneath. Norh East cars can be grim, espc around Newcastle where the North sea air could do real damage - I recall going to BCA in Newcastle to buy a cheap ex fleet Sierra 20 odd years ago and the early D reg ones were all festering.

I believe a Zoner on here (no names) lives around 60 miles North of London and his late model E46 Coupe needs/needed new wings. We see cars from salvage yards in Sandwich, and they're no better than anyhing else.

Our old Laguna (ten years old this year) was a North Yorkshire car all it's life and it's perfect underneath, literally like a two year old car despite 90'000 miles. The Frogs do that sort of thing much better than the Germans anyway. :D

Anything north of the Watford gap! :)

And yes, the fogs do make a better body in terms of corrosion.

Why can't the Germans get it right?

Do they fester as bad in their home land?

Yes. A mate's Dad in central Germany had an E36 with a few spots of rust and they changed it for an E46 5 years ago. Big mistake - that's even worse!

E90/E60/E65 is when they finally nailed it.

Mind you, I saw a white J reg E36 316i in Waitrose car park last night - steelz, black bumpers, the works. Wasn't that rusty either.

Not as mint as an '04 Zafira Elegance though. :D

The best thing about a Zafira is you can dump it in the parent and family parking bays and have less distance to transport your red and white stickered load :D

Zafiras are a bit Asda though. This one made it's first trip to U Pull It on Saturday - not much is more council than that.

Good call on the parking tips though Pete. I'll have to get a tattoo and do my best Angry Dad impression.

How are the mint beige velourz holding up to the cut and thrust of motor trade life ? :)

PS What sort of coooont orders a MPV or whatever they are called nowadays, with foooking beige velourz ?

Surely the only reason to buy one of these new is to haul kids or leaking OAPs :?

It's GM Gazelle Grey, not quite grey, not quite beige, and certainly not Motor Trade Black. That was that 320d's saving grace, wipe clean black Motor Trade leatherz.

It's doing 31 mpg. Still have the MAF disconnected pending the arrival of a new one, but the Oxfordgrun E46 323i is on the road now with rent* and Michelin Primacy part wornz.

*only half a dozen for the time being. And Accelera Alphas on the back for that M3 Cutterz look.
