Basically i got my weber carb fitted and the original air filter didn't fit back on as there wasn't enough clearance between it and the bonnet, if there an alternative that will fit?

cheers

Original filter should fit. I've had two with Webers, and neither had problems with clearance.

Any idea why mine has problems with fitment? it was fitted by an old car mechanic so i doubt he fitted it incorrectly :/ i think the main problem was that there was nowhere for the filter to screw onto the carb..?

cheers

That phenolic spacer between the carb and manifold looks rather thick. Could you not get a thinner one, then you may be able to fit the standard air filter?

Im not sure mate, know nothing about the carb! the mechanic did say it has been modified which made it too too tall?

can anyone confirm if i can buy a different phenolic filter? would save me some cash!

The carb looks standard, however, immediately below it there is a thick alloy plate holding the cable, and then the rather thick phenolic spacer.

You can buy thinner ones:

The black thing inbetween the carb and the manifold? is it thicker then normal?

I bought this second hand so no idea why someone would have a large spacer that would cause the original filter not to fit?

Yes, the black spacer. Measure it, and find out how thick it is.

I'm sure you could lower the carb by around half an inch or so, using the right combination of spacer(s).

In fact, maybe you could remove the black spacer altogether, and just use the thick alloy throttle cable plate to do the job instead, with a gasket each side of it.

Alright mate ill do that, ill also ring the mechanic to see how close the filter was from clearing the bonner.. hopefully this will sort it!

thanks bud, i really couldn't figure out what was causing it to be so high until the mentioned the spacer, i thought it was a necessity.

Yes, some sort of spacer is required, but yours appears way too thick - the carb retaining nuts are barely able to fit on the mounting studs!

Would shaving the spacer down not be a possibility? also, what size spacer would you recommend mate?

Yes, you may be able to shave it down. I would go for a 1/4 inch thick one.
