Just bought an e36 328i in the worst colour ever

Just bought an e36 328i se
Its a horrible colour but a brilliant car.

Few rust patches but surface and low miles only 94000 genuine with history.

Leather interior which is mint and best of all drove the 160 mile journey home perfectly.

Intend to strip it of its interior,sell my e30 touring and get some decent brakes, m50 2.5 inlet manifold and chip( I gather they are a must for cheapish power increase),get a lsd put on,suspension and hopefully get it out on some track somewhere and have some fun.

Thats what I was thinking,but not in the touring but my sport. Then I thought I know f all about engine swaps,have no tools and zero confidence in anyone I know to do it.

Im still keeping an e30, just have to get rid of the touring purely down to lack of space.

I have an e46 320d daily run around, the tec 2 sport which my mrs knows about and a 325i touring and now 328 which my mrs has no idea about!

It looks similar spec to mine, although mine has a sunroof (electric) and sports seats.
I thought mine was getting to be highish mileage @ 216K

I really liked mine. Far better than Glacier Green that a lot of similar age E39s came in. Some of the Morea Green E36s came with an awful green interior though. Mine sported silver velourz which, whilst very undesirable, was infinitely preferable!

Its quite scary to drive. Its not that its fast, it just feels real twitchy on back end. I can throw the e30 sport around quite easy but this is different. Original plan was to purchase m50 inlet manifold and get power up,but after driving it around last few days,I think I got to get a lsd on it first before I look at more power.

Very similar to mine...SE spec with no aircon, electric sunroof, 18 btn OBC, silver sports leathers with wood trim, 4 electric windows, auto-dip rearview mirror, no ASC+T and 16" double spoke alloys is what mine has....Montreal Blue paintwork.

I bought it with about 140K on the vlock and it now has over 216K...Only things I've had to do, other than servicing bits, is an alternator, a pair of rear springs and a pair of rear top mounts.

Out of curiosity what mpg are you getting?

I have been averaging around 29 driving around locally, does that sound about right?

Asc was standard on later ones, I think around the facelift, even 318is got asc

Twitchy rear end means knackered bushes, and there are lots of them on an e36. An e30 has 6. Two subframe and two on each arm.

E36 has 8 suspension bushes, two ball joints and 4 subframe bushes, and they're getting to the point where most will be degrading purely due to age.

In good order, the e36 rear end is far more planted and forgiving than the e30s

I driven on part worns and scrappy budget tyres for as far back as I can remember, never had any issues.
Are these wheels not suited to car ?
I have same ones on my daily e46 so these can't be an e36 wheel?

My old 328 touring was an early 96 car and had no traction control. If the handling is getting dodgey knackered rear shocks make them nasty handling.

Mine is suffering from this, ive done my trailing arm bushes and the 4 axle carrier ones also in the last year. MY rear shocks are done and if i hit a bump mid corner the back end steps out or trys to Not good.

I'm on 218,000 in mine, i'm just reviving the air con at the moment.

There are some pretty horrible individual colours too, thankfully they're pretty rare.

like you i expect mine just feels like it will go on and on it feels as strong and tight as it did when i got it.

Yeah, pretty much! I keep thinking I should plan for a replacement as it can't go on forever, but it does.

Still goes like stink, barely uses any oil, reasonable on fuel, great fun to throw around, comfortable on a long run. I honestly can't think of anything I could replace it with which would offer similar performance, practicality and reasonable running costs.

Out of curiosity what mpg are you getting?

I have been averaging around 29 driving around locally, does that sound about right?

I'm getting about 27mpg on local runs in traffic and upto 32mpg on longer motorway runs...The OBC is fairly accuarate as I check regularly against the odometer and brim to brim fills.

I find that as an oil service approaches the mpg can drop a bit and it picks up again on fresh oil and filters.
