That has a cracked dash!

So what the latest in dash repair? Or shall I not bother and get a replacement and do that annoying rattle on the heater on 1&2 at the same time? Even something to make it look better until i do it would be cool.

What do you rek?

p.s. I will gets some pics tomorrow

If the believe the noise is from the fan, no need to remove the dash as it's accessed from the bulkhead in the engine bay.
I would look for a good dash.

google it theres a brilliant guide with lots of pics, its not too hard and go slowly and surely you can do it- take lots of pics as you go (for reference for re-fitting) and put all the fittings in little tubs etc, andf buy all new bulbs for the dash lights etc whilst your doing it

but more importantly, as its probably never been out- a good chance to check and repair the bulkhead areas for rust etc , around the gromets and corners, whilst your there if you haver the space/time, strip the carpet out, give the floor and al the wiring a good check over- remove and re-wrap the loom with fabric tape etc etc

There's a download in the wiki 'changing your dash', it's for a LHD but looks relevant. It's worth checking the wiki for any queries, along with the search function, these are old cars and most things have been documented already.

Good luck :D

Ok - that looks involved and a second pair of hands and a roof over the car would be useful.

I am working in the open, might we worth trying to get some cover before i try that one.

depends what you find as to "each way" , most people would be pretty certain there will be rust issues found once its out, weather major or small needing attention, maybe some wiring issues too, i certainly wouldnt be planning to remove and put a new one straight in

also buy a new foam heater gasket from bmw to have ready, that sits between the heater and dash

dash out- hour or so, its not actualy that hard to remove or put it- but more time consuming is making sure everything is right and in place properly when putting back in and lots more fiddling about than removing, someone fluent in it could do an in-out swapm in a day, but for putting it back in if youve never done it, id allow a couple of days to get it done properly from start to finish including all the tinkering with bits and any problems encountered

1st thing to do, is remove your dash and have a good look at it all

when i put my dash back in, it took a good few days, but then that was also sorting out the look and re-wrapping it in fabric tape and getting everything in properly, bit of fiddling with the wiring and trim behind the glove box etc

so really it all depends what you encounter/see once the dash is removed and condition of the bulkhead and around the big rubber grommet (always rusts) and hopefuly no horrors

looking at the pics of your car in the other thread, id say that you 100% definatly want to remove the dash and carpets, and youl be in for a whole heap of fun/time/money before it comes to a time of re fitting it all...

car looks like it needs a full restoration and wil have lots of rust issues to be found

I agree, thats why i am thinking about stripping what i need for my Hartge 27 out of this one and then sell the bits, quite gutted about it really.

Engine has very low miles since the rebuild as a 2.6 as does the LSD and Hartge suspension kit.

I need a Dash, rear exhaust box (which are no longer available) and a few silly bits to fix up a few issues on the H27 and I have all of the bits in my H26. which is starting to look like alot more hours that at first what i thought (famous last words)

What do you think

I think if it's a real Harte with provenance then it doesn't matter how much time it takes; get it fixed. E30s are already appreciating assets and a Hartge with a papertrail will be even more so. For the sake of an afternoon and a dashboard, plus an exhaust ordered from Germany, you could have a really rare car on your hands.

Not seen any pics of the shell yet so can't comment on that.

links to car below, looks like it needs a lot of work and on a strip down would reveal a whole host of issues, looks like a full resto job in waiting, and from what your posting/saying it doesnt sound like your head heart and wallet would be in for it, sadly , as above they are rare cars abeit a 4 door, but still, would be nice to see it saved

I agree i want to do it up, but everyone around me is telling me dump it finish up the 27 with some of the bits sell the good bits and pass the usual stuff to a re seller.

The dash board job is for the 27 i am talking about the 26 i also have. Follow the link to see it, scroll left for more pics. Its real and Germany do not have any rear boxes and nor do Birds. these cars was built in very small numbers.

The H27 is just engine full exhaust system (inc headers) and ECU plus some bling parts cam cover, steering wheel. The 26 was engine exhaust no headers ECU Hartge suspension kit discs and possibly calipers and a really trick looking rear box (i think)- i need to check the paperwork to confirm some of that.

I see what they mean i would have one trick Hartge by combining the parts, although the M-tech suspension is eaiser on the lower spine winkeye

Getting back to the H27,

Decided to hold on the dash for better weather - its p!$$ing almost every day.

I found a Hartge suspension kit that was taken off a demo H26 to test some experimental suspension. That experimental suspension got sold with the H26 and the Original Hartge suspension got boxed and put away. They had only a few thousand miles on them.

Managed to get them for a good price and hopefully by next week it will be all done.

Currently

the H26 donk was simply a 325i engine with a spiky cam, a bit of port work and an ECU,

Steve K is right, the 323i based H26 had a 2554cc engine using an eta block like just like the 323i based Alpina C2 2.5.

All the 325i based H26's were as topless describes but to add they used a special headgasket to up the compression ratio.

As the gasket is NLA, they now will skim the head to up the compression ratio.

Trying to figure out which ECU i have, but the stickers on mine don't seem to match up with the general ones. I got some pics of the ECU only 2 sides had any detail.

Also trying to figure out which injectors i have in there, they are blue on top

That 'ECU' is the ABS control unit! The engine ECU is located under the dashboard on the driver's side - remove the trim panel below the steering column using a coin and look up to find a silver box with 'Motronic' written on it; it should have a label with a part number, e.g. 0 261 200 173.
