Hi all could someone give me some advice i just bought an e30 320ise 3 door in pretty much mint condition. Now me and a friend want to do a project with it. He has many parts laying about, originally we was going to go with the m50b25 and put the 2.8 internals in and turbo it, but now he has suggested to research and see if we can use the 3.0 m3 internals. Now i know the bores are 84mm 2.5 and 86mm 3.0. Now can the 2.5 block be bored out for the bigger pistons. Will the crank and everything else fit this will also be turbo charged.

Any info would be very much appreciated

Many thanks :D

Will that then make it a 3.0 are those internals strong? What sort of power can they handle?

Thanks

a standard m54b30 is around 230bhp but in an m50 engine they seem to make more due to bigger inlet manny on m50b25 engine. i would say with a blower strapped to it 400-500bhp could be achived.

Ok thats great. Would you say this is a better route than using the S50 internals and if so why just so i understand?

Id stick with it being 2.5 you will still achieve 500hp stock.
Plus iirc the 2.5 rods are stronger.

You will make more power than 400-500hp with a 3 litre. An m50b25 will do that on standard internals with just a head gasket and ARP head bolts

Well we have the m3 internals we also have a 2.8 cylinder head which i believe will flow better. We can get it rebored cheaply as a friend owns a machine shop. I just need to know if it will all fit after its been bored out or will it require any other modifications?

without as its easier to map without it as a less advanced management unit can be used

Waste of time rebuilding to turbo IMO, your just doubling the amount of money it will cost, and as lee said it will still do 500hp as a 2.5

Even if it does, its just a couple of hundred quid M50, not a £2k built engine :)

Ok peeps thanks for all your input. Going to go for m50b25 non vanos turbo and just do the head gasket and head bolts will also do arp rod bolts. I would like near to 500bhp as possible. Whats the best turbo to use? Ive been looking for manifolds but all are either cheap crap or mega money so i think its going to have to be custom made. Is it possible to use the standard management system if its mapped by someone that knows what there doing. What injectors should be used? Cheap intercooler kit will be fine ill just have to plumb it in.

Any other suggestions for this build please feel free to comment ive never done this before but i have a genius re-mapper and a fantastic fabricator, i am a mechanic myself so building it is not a problem for me.

Thanks

You will need standalone. VEMS is meant to be very good, especially for the money. PM Gunni off here, just don't use him for a manifold.

Ok thanks. Manifold is not a problem my friend is making me one. Is there anyone who can make me a wiring loom to suit the m50 engine in the e30 shell.
Thanks

Thanks

Because it uses a MAF sensor as opposed to a MAP and it's not tuneable enough. You can use to standard ecu up to around 300-350hp iirc still using the MAF, then it runs out of steam.
