Wheels apart, I'm very much liking this.

Good point, Maurice.
Just been through the Flckr photos, and not overly impressed
with the condition of some of the nut/washers used, especially
on the Bonnet strut and wings.
Also not one pic of the actual restoration in progress.

I believe a 1602 is just like a 2002 but worse !

Yes, carburettor option if I'm not mistaken. No fuel injection on those puppies.

Back in 1991 this 1602 was lucky to have got away from the hands of Jaymic, the 02 specialists of the time, who were paying £100 each to break them for body spares. Nobody wanted them, especially the later square rear light facelift model, there were more than enough 2002's available to fill the '02 market at the time. Even now its the least desirable of the '02's, its only the new paint and the alloys that makes it look acceptable. It wouldn't be nice opening the bonnet, and seeing the old paint, they all went rusty on the edges of the metal parts and wherever they were welded, cannot imagine its that tidy in the flesh.

Wouldn't the 1502 be the least desirable model?

I think Jaymic paid a premium on the 1502 as the panels were less rusty due to the 1502's poverty spec, with it deleted the waist trim. Not sure if it had the same engine/mechs as the 1602?Speedtouch wrote:Wouldn't the 1502 be the least desirable model?

Indeed, both 1502 and 1602 shared the same engine size:

That looks really nice, but I see what you mean about the screws he's used. I would have expected a little better than that to be honest.

02's just aren't particularly desirable full stop and full ££££ vlassic status has passed them by. If they were ever going to be really valuable they would be by now. I wouldn't want one.

I don't think is want one as an investment or an appreciating asset as such. I'd look at it as just something a little different to drive around it. You have to admit it is a bit stylish

All '02's were carb apart from tii's, turbo's and some Alpina A4's.Topblag wrote:Yes, carburettor option if I'm not mistaken. No fuel injection on those puppies.
