Guys,
Are there any reason other than VANOS problems, why people don`t fit those updated engines into e30? Is it maybe more complicated compared to M52B28?

The main reason is down to management, can bus and fly by wire mainly, there are people that know how to flash this out of the ECU but its still a big secret and as such they charge fortunes for it, £800 odd.
The other reason is the head/gas flow design, when they designed the engines they were not interested in them making more power, just reducing emissions, due to this the ports are much smaller and IMO give less scope for power increases.
As an example I rebuilt the bottom end of a 3.0 M54 into a single vanos 2.8 engine, using the standard 2.8 cams/ECU and it made more power and torque than the M54B30 engine is supposed to have

What numbers should a well put together m52b30 make? I'm trying to figure whether to go this route or bite the bullet and go s5*...

Ive since fitted S52 cams and it goes a hell of a lot better, just not got round to dynoing it again
The m52tu is pretty much the same engine as the m54

Yes, 236hp and 239lbft with a standard 2.8 ECU, 6500rpm rev limit

Do the AFRs stay in the good zone with the standard map?

Yeah ive been saying it for ages but I will get it mapped at some point
The M52 management is very adaptive, you can run a 2.5 on 2.8 ecu/injectors with no issues too

So how come loads of these 328s seem to have head work done or had failing head gaskets is it an actual common problem with them or have i just seen some unlucky ones for sale .
also the 323 motor is a 2.5 version of the 2.8 how come people dont fit these instead of the m50 is it down to the same problem as the M52TUB28 with the can bus crap

The 323i is fitted with a load of detuning stuff, throttle, manifold etc. Fitting the 2.5 gubbins makes it go like a...er... 2.5sunnysr wrote:So how come loads of these 328s seem to have head work done or had failing head gaskets is it an actual common problem with them or have i just seen some unlucky ones for sale .

A bit like the m50 manifold releases the latent power in a 2.8.
