Thanks everyone for support.

Another week another bit of progress.

One of the main problems in fitting a V8 into an e30 ( amongst many :D ) is the brake servo. There is no room at all in the stock location with a great big V8 stuck in there now.
Image

So main options to to extend a pushrod and place the servo behind the headlight. Not a great solution as the rod will have a tendency to flex under hard breaking, it also looks messy
Image

Another way to go is the hydraulic system from a V8 e34 or e28. It's a bit complicated for my liking for a braking system
Image

A pedal box from the likes of tilton works well but you would loose servo assistance which I didn't want
Image

The servo can also be placed in the battery tray position but I can't see a good way of making a linkage that will push in a straight plane to the servo

My preferred method is to mount the servo behind the glove box
Thanks to Dave the goat on the zone for this idea

Here is the original bracket that mounts the servo through the bulkhead
Image

Make a plate to now mount it at 90 deg from original position
Image

Then reinforce it to stop any flexing
Image

Image

Image

Now a Clio servo is used as it is much smaller then the e30 servo as it has a dual diaphragm
Image

Mounted in position
Image

Image

The fork of the servo has to be drilled and a new arm has to be welded to the swivel arm to push in the right position
Image

Here it is bolted into another e30 I have lying around
Image

Image

Image

Now I need to get a golf master cylinder as its nice and short and make up some kind of remote reservoir for it. Then it's another job off the long list :D

Nicely done Dave. :thumb:

The rear upper bolts were a touch of a pain to get in my mount. Your design looks like it might be a little better in that respect.
I used VW Beetle elbows in the top of a VW Sharan (25mm) master cylinder IIRC. Are you going to have a shortened glove box in there?

Cheers. Dave. :D

Why not just use a remote servo and save the passengers ankles?

Thanks Dave , yes the bolts are easy to get to this way, thanks for the heads up on the servo and the elbows, where did you get them. Do you have any part no's ?
Not sure what I will do with the glovebox, might just fit it permanently
Thank Dave

Andrew
Hi Andrew , don't know much about those remote servos, think I would prefer to stay with a conventional one for such an important safety item. Also you would need to find somewhere anyhow to fit that
Thanks dave

I bought the elbows off fleabay Dave.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brake-master- ... 3f1e47cd5a

I looked into using a remote servo Andrew. The only place I could see to mount one would be in the boot. The dual circuit ones are around £300 IIRC, the single circuit ones are cheaper, but (obviously) 2 would be needed (plus the extra plumbing. :? )
Clearance for the passenger's legs/ankles isn't actually as bad as it looks TBH. :D

That vent gauge looks smart Dave!

Cheers. Dave. :D

Mk1 corsa servos are compact units the servo mounts flat with the resovoir and master cyl on top the brake pedal is all integrated into it as well.

Postman arrived with these during the week :D

Image

Fook me it was hard taking a grinder to brand new m3 quarters
Image

And after
Image

Leftovers
Image

Cut another bit out of the shell to see how things line up
Image

Will there be anything left !!!
Image

Only finding more problems for the moment
The new quarter meets the pocket much higher up and further in so I will probably have to cut away part of the pocket and make something between the 2

Another problem is that the m3 outer wheel well is from a 2 door car and is now coming into contact with the rear door Image
Wheelwell has to go forward about an inch and also up about the same so I will have to cut a lump out of the wheel well

Oh the joys :D

That blue one is amazing. Stumbled across the build thread for it on another forum. The interior and everything is perfect.

Get rid of the schnizter stripes snd other gimmicks and throw dome silver wheels on and the blue one is bang on.
Would benefit from a tech 2 rear spoiler or something too

There was hell up about that blue car on the american forums.

The builder seems to be quite frowned upon for his customer service shall we say.

So a bit of an update at long last.

Image

Cut a good lump from the m3 wheelarch to make room to work with the 4 door

Image

That's better

Image

Still in the way though

Image

More cutting

Image

How much further the m3 wheelwell comes out

Image

And the difference from the facelift quarter and pocket. Lots more fun.

Image

Looking better all the same

Image

Make a pocket in wheelwell

Image

Primed

Image

Image

That's much better

Image

Gonna be lots of work ahead

Image

With m3 skirt for fitment

Image

More cutting. Will there be anything left.
