Morning all.
Now I know that when rebuilding an engine, that the pistons
must be situated in their original bores, but what is the procedure
when using pistons from another block.
Same type of pistons and engine btw.
TIA, Rob.
Pistons not from original engine.

The rings and shells are the important bits.
Hone the bores and with new rings it'll be fine. The rod that matched the new piston is better kept as the small end matches. New big end shells will suffice.
It's the rings that need to go back it the same bore not necessarily the piston.

Cheers for that Trev, Bores already honed and have all new rings but for some reason
I was convinced that pistons had to be placed in original location.

I suppose there could be a balance issue on some engines. Ie if the bottom ends been balanced then yes its essential that the order is kept. But for a run of the mill donk I can't see an issue.

Afaik there isn't actually any reason that dosen't have 15 solid counter arguments, if you have mixed the pistons up just get a scale and pair them up to prevent a rocking motion.

This is for my 2.8 build.
Unfortunately I have cleaned the pistons from the original block, with scotchbrite, that much that
i'm now dubious about using them.

Dont worry about scotchbrite, just make sure you get the ring grooves scrupulously clean, I find acid works a treat

If there is ever a "next time" Dan, acid will be the route I take.
