I've recently discovered water in my oil, as my M40 is nearing 120000mls with noisy everything, I'm guessing its pointless to fix.
will it be a rapid death, will it just conk out tomorrow or will I possibly get several 100mls out of it?

prob just a head gasket
i think i read somewhere its just that and not a warped or cracked head
might not be as much as you think to fix, just depends on the condition of the car i guess

the body's near perfect for it's age, shes quite noisy though,
I'm losing sleep over droping in 318is running gear, or just buying a 318is.
its killing me
after just consulting my workshop manual, replacing a head gasket seems quite involved, I guessing it could be achived in a weekend?
but we still come back to.....is it worth it.

thanks for the advice

If it turns out to be a cracked head, I think it would be quicker/easier and cheaper to source a complete engine and swop them over, as the labour to do such a job would be about the same, and as you mention yours is quite noisy....

Ideal opportunity to dump an M42 in though! winkeye
