Yes and yes. There was a thread recently in the tech help section that BrianMoore linked the parts with on CarParts4Less.co.uk.

I replaced one of mine with a standard item. Considered doing this and replacing both, but technically this would be a modification therefore could cause insurance grief. Unlikely, but it could.

no offence but have you been through every single component on your car to ensure its correct to exactly how it left the BMW factory?stew72 wrote:I replaced one of mine with a standard item. It could be an issue if the insurance assessor knows the difference. If for example a rose jointed drop link was used (or other obvious aftermarket part), I'm sure it would be picked up, but a standard looking car part....?HairyScreech wrote:He does have a point unfortunately, However shit it may be it could still be an issue.

If the images on ecp's website are correct then an assessor would be able to tell if they knew what they were looking for, which with the help of the internet wouldn't be too difficult.jmc330i wrote:stew72 wrote:I replaced one of mine with a standard item. Again if the images are correct it looks like you need to drill the control arm and probably remove the old bracket. Can anyone confirm?

You don't need to drill the arm, just remove the bracket and bolt in.stew72 wrote:If the images on ecp's website are correct then an assessor would be able to tell if they knew what they were looking for, which with the help of the internet wouldn't be too difficult.jmc330i wrote:stew72 wrote:I replaced one of mine with a standard item. No mods. required at all. Just a straightforward replacement.stew72 wrote: If the images on ecp's website are correct then an assessor would be able to tell if they knew what they were looking for, which with the help of the internet wouldn't be too difficult.

The chances of an insurance assessor noticing, or caring in the unlikely event that he did, are negligible.

If you'd fitted rose joint drop links that are obviously not standard, then the assessor will probably look closer (and at the rest of the car also), but with the mondeo parts not looking like an aftermarket part, I'm sure it wouldn't even be noticed.

I agree with noticing, but whether he cares or not would depend on whos side he's on.Brianmoooore wrote:No mods. required at all. Perhaps you could care to explain just how an ARB link of a different design would affect an inspector's POV?stew72 wrote:I agree with noticing, but whether he cares or not would depend on whos side he's on.Brianmoooore wrote:No mods. required at all.
