A friend sent me a link to this car on eBay and its got me curious, not that I want to purchase the car but as an IS owner would it be worth considering investing a bit more money into my car (respray, M50/52), I was considering these anyway but this has made me think its a good idea as I won't be throwing money down the drain.

What do you think?

mines done to this standard if not better but mine has many more toys like obc, headlight wiper kit,map light mirror [to be fitted] rear doggin blind, rear pop outs, smaller m-tech 1 s/wheel ,full black sport leatherz with rear armrest and head rests, fire extinguisher, illuminated gear knob .all suspension bushes replaced, grooved drilled discs,e36 steering rack conversion ,etc etc ... i could go on..

my advert would read better than his and when the m52 is running [this week] it will beat that red turd down the strip .

will i get 6k for it ............will i fook!

 What would you value yours at magpie if you dont mind me asking? (when its finished of course)

As mine doesn't owe me a lot probably less than a £1000 so it just got me thinking if i could get it resprayed, drop in an M50/52, and refresh the suspension for say £2000 as i would do spannering myself but not the paint, would it be worth it?

:chuckle: I don't really plan on selling the car in the near future anyway so might just buy a crappy car and turn it into a bit of a project but we will see.

No !

Modifying cars virtually NEVER returns the cost of the work. The market is very small as most are ,rightly, apprehensive of buying somebody elses lash up :(

A NICE IS has a value. Molest it with an engine swap and it is no longer an IS, just an E30 with another engine.

It depends whether you are planning to use the car or sell it.

Use it, ive put alot of time into the car so far and like ive said it doesn't owe me much money so if i sold it i would probably end up buying another which could have problems if already sorted on mine :)

That's Monkeys old e30. He sold it to a local chap who sold it to the current seller. A very clean e30, which in my opinion was nicer when he owned it. It wasn't sat on reps!

It looks imaculate and its quite local to me, I did find it a little odd that the owner put reps on a car he values so highly!

It definitely got my mind ticking on which direction I should go with mine.

When you put it like that it makes me think that a swap would definitely be a bad idea!

I fooked my iS up with a engine swap and sold it for 8k, granted it was not your normal lash up but it does prove a good conversion can command good money.

Does this mean your both saying the E30 M3 is not a real BMW 8O

I think I will be upgrading my suspension and steering first as I'm still unsure about the engine.

:chuckle: You're not wrong! But I'm going to sort my suspension setup then decide if it needs more power, I don't want to have almost 200bhp in a car thats handling like a boat :P

Hi Guys,

I actually bought this car and it now resides in Edinburgh,

Was it too expensive?

That depends, I have no garage to work on cars, not enough mechanical knowledge to do the conversion etc.

I looked at the ad above for around 3 days pondering and here is my reason for paying £5300 for the car...

I am happy to be corrected on prices:

A rust free E30 2 door: £2000+
Conversion parts: £1000+?
A garage near Edinburgh that would do the labour: £2000+
Then theres things like the suspension & wheels etc which i would think would be well over £1000+ again.

Add to that i could jump straight into the car and use it without sourcing parts etc.

I dont think it was an expensive car and feel the forum members as a whole under value these cars as i have been offered profit on the car already in the short time i have had it albeit £700 more than i paid.

Please don't sell these great cars short as not everyone has the time or ability to pick up a sub 1k scrapper and spend countless man hours making them nice.

I love the car to bits and don't care if it's a "red turd".

Thanks

Paul.
