Drop down the cover under the steering coloumn (over the pedals etc.) you just turn the screws 90 degrees.
You will see a silver box with a large connector on it under the cover. Loosen the 4 10mm nuts which clamp it in, then it will slide out towards the rear of the car. Unplug the plug (make sure the ignition etc is off).
And remove the ECU (the silver box).
Remove the four torx screws on top of the ECU, and bend the lugs over which are bent onto the bottom.
Take the top cover off, then you will see the chip in question sitting on a raised platform probably with a silver sticker on it.
Lever this off with a screwdriver wrapped in pvc tape or similar and replace with your chip.
If it doesnt work etc, just replace the old one and job done!

I've had various after market chips in mine, plus i then replaced the original chip back with no consequences...
Takes a few miles for the car to settle down and re learn the settings, but other than that no probs at all.

E30Mark, which chips have you had in? Anything good? I guess not if you've got the original one back in!
