New member's e30 drifter!

Im unsure yet as ive not fitted them but few of my mates have them on there e36's and i think its much the same work involved using the e30-e36 lollipop bushes onto the e46 arms. Unsure when il get round to it but il report back when i do

I used Jom 1s on my old e36 and within a few months of abuse on the road they ended up leaking fluids.
As with 'proper coilovers' do they fit in the same place or are the needed to have special fabrication done to the chassis to take them?
Any specific top mounts you recommend or?...
Wicked for the rack reccomendation too, I'm currently using the e36 with rack spacers
The proper coilys bolt in where normally just the shock absorber would be on the rear. Shouldnt really need any mods tho they might slightly foul the fuel tank breather cover on the drivers side rear, a hammer can fix that lol.
E36 rack is nearly as good as the clubsport so thats cool.
Top mount wise, i was running the Gaz eccentric top mounts, cost about £110+vat, the rpm style one are good but not cheap. To be honest, as long as you can dial in some camber you should be ok, castor angle can be increased by using e30 m3 offset bushes on the lower arms

Was an e30 a good choice for a beginner drift car? or if you could go back would you have got something different??

In all honesty, I have found the n/a engine really good to get the basics and learning how to make it work without the use of boost.
I drove my friends 200sx and was MUCH easier to drift, but, have to keep it on boost to drift and I found it hard to straighten up without snatching viciously.

why dont people stick to learning to drift in a battered old Ford Sierra, dont get me wrong i quite like the concept of drifting but ruining a perfectly good car it just crazy

I dont see a problem with it, these people aren't bmw enthusiast their more drift enthusiasts. I want to do a bit of this drifting milarkey and i have always wanted to go crazy on a e30, matt paint job, roll cage, wacky coloured wheels and rivet some wide arches on it. But saying that if i was on the look out for an e30 drift turd i wouldn't be looking to buy to a rotten e30 to keep the e30 'community' happy, i'd be looking for the best one my money could buy

Seems like a e30 is a great starter drifter plus you can always stick a jap turbo block in it

It stands out as not many people drift e30's so it looks cool IMO.

When you have to start replacing turbos and other stuff the £££'s start racking up. With an e30 its do i fix the engine or just buy another block for £300 and stick it in there.

Engine wide been toying with an m20 turbo, v8 or sr20det conversion

A dash isnt going to make a difference on weight . Only more on making insurance void due to sharp objects . Just like no door cards as someone i know discovered .
As for the previous comment i just see about get a sierra . Try finding one . .
I have an e30 for drifting but yet i have a touring which im rather anal an oem ish about so not all drifters ar cocks !
To anyone who isn't ! Treat the lad with respect, its his car and if he wants to actually drive and use his car to practice in a very fast growing Motorsport ( that is actually televised btw)then let him.

Incase people wonder, I've also got an VW Golf mk4 daily on x5 alloys and that's my pride and joy so I can see where people are coming from about how it looks like "I'm trashing it"

As for them been too pricey; I know 2 lads that drift the HELL outta a mk1 and a mk2, the mk2's running just over 550bhp and the mk1 is a Burton 2.0ltr Pinto on t/b's

More part availability, spare parts are easy to come by, more powerful engines, easy upgrades/engines and my pure hatred for Fords
Going back a while on your thread, if you want E46 arms then you need to have a 5 x 120 setup. I run E46 arms on my V8, they are good gives a much better feel upfront and enables some more lock.
You will need castor/camber top mounts and a few days of drifting to get it set just how you like it. My car suffered loads with no self centering until I sorted out the geo.
Lob any e36 steering rack in there and it will be a million times better then a e30 one!
Other then that have fun!

Other then converting the hubs to 5x120 is there anything else that needs modifying or other bits changed over?
I've seen adjustable top mounts on eBay but there the polish 1s so I don't know how people rate them, any suggestions?
To 5 stud you will need, e36 coilovers as with just struts it will sit a bit odd unless you spend a lot of time with springs
